Hi, my mobo became faulty and require a change,

Should i upgrade it to 8th gen or should i get a replacement mobo(asus h81m-k)?

Current setup is
Asrock b85m pro4
I5 4570

any suggestion for a mobo+ i5 4600 that doesnt cost a bomb?

Appreciate any answer,

Either option is fine though much cheaper to just replace the MB.

Changing MB+CPU means that you need to change RAM to DDR4 as well.

As an alternative to the Intel 8th gen CPU, you can also consider getting the cheaper AMD Ryzen 5 2600 with a B450 motherboard and DDR4 RAM. Then sell off your i5 4570.

You can't use b360 with your current chip. You have to use the lga1150 boards namely H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H81, Z87, H97 and Z97. Blame Intel for this.

This is why people supporting the new amd chips. Their socket is touted to last at least 5 years which means 5 gens of CPUs and motherboards which can be freely replaced.

Also, what new cooler?

hey bro if you are certain your motherboard is spoilt you can get a replacement for your existing 4th gen i5 and save your money for future upgrades. because you will be keeping your current i5 and ddr3 ram.

but more importantly what do you normally do with your desktop? it really depends because if you don't do much rendering workloads or streaming games then your current i5 4570 is perfect. but if you plan to multi task and want a smoother experience on games like AC Oddessy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, COD Black Ops 4 or Battlefield V, then I would recommend also including sellers that are bundling up their 4th gen compatible motherboard with a 4th gen i7 CPU.

hope this helps!
