Need some advice for university....

Hi everyone !

Some background information about myself: y3 accountancy student in one of the local polytechnic with a GPA of 3.4 (hoping to increase this sem+intern). I feel that I picked the wrong course in polytechnic and have no interest in continuing accountancy. Instead of signing on for NS (initial plan), my tutor recommended me to move into the programming/coding sector because of the high demand recently for accounting software developer (is that what you call them).

I don't know anything about programming but I just started on the javascript course on dashboard to learn.

Some questions to ask everyone:
1) What is the key difference between computer science in NTU or SMU IS and which is better for me (accounting background)?
2) Any other paths/recommendation for me?
3) What can I do now to upgrade myself portfolio wise for programming? (I have quite a bit of time before going into NS so I want to increase my chance of going into one of these courses)
4) Is javascript the first language I should learn?

Any comment/advice is much appreciated!!

What's your passion? Think SMU IS is more relevant since u have some accounting background

Something I really enjoyed doing in secondary school is doing maths related stuff. I like the problem solving aspect of it and how you can twist and turn it and apply it to solve something else.

dont worry so much first. now concentrate on boosting ur gpa cos ur gpa ia out of the cut-off range. upon graduation then slowly plan ur route.

u enjoy math but dislike accountancy.
the is no problem aspect of accountancy?

1. most of the time the course choose u not other way around.
2. u need to figure out what to do, tutor tell u programming is hot does not mean u will excel and enjoy it. follow blindly where $$ is not the way to go about life.
3. contribute to open source projects. develop an App, popular App helps.
4. old fashion coding ppl ppl learn c++, from there not hard to branch out to other languages. but many doing Apps just pick up Java. nothing wrong with it

for now focus on doing well, spend the NS time to explore career path. u may not life of developers. in comp sci class not hard to find ppl stuck in the lab till 2-3am trying to figure out to get their code working. at work long hours also expected just like auditing.

I think u would need at least a DWM to change field of study from Accounting To IT
