Need some advice on application on uni

Hi, I will be graduating from diploma in accountancy this year. I am thinking to apply for Accountancy courses in University, but my gpa (currently) is 3.2. From what i see, NTU, SMU, NUS igp is 3.70-ish, so should i not waste time and apply since my gpa is so far off?

in terms of my cca results i would say its average and nothing exceptional, i have a few testimonials but i am not sure if that would be enough to put me as a suitable candidate in the 3 universities i stated. What should i do?

1. Just try your luck, no harm. Doesn't take much time or cost that much to apply. You never know if you might get lucky with discretionary admission.

2. Consider the other local universities, or if your parents can afford it, an overseas university education.

3. The advanced diploma route is faster than a degree qualification to becoming a CA, though I encourage this only if you're dead-certain you want to go into the accounting field.

Just apply, no harm. If they do not work out, you can always study accountancy at UniSIM. Quite a number of my ex-colleagues in the Big 4, as well as a handful in commercial, studied there too.

A good start point is to be introspective and ask what you wish to read at the undergrad level and why. The where will fall in place after that.

Although pre-university grades are important, the local universities are moving away from an overemphasis on grades. More importantly, you need to answer 2 questions to get a place without solely relying on your grades:

1. Why should they choose you over others? i.e. what is the value you bring to the classroom / faculty / university?

2. Can you reasonably survive the rigour of local college education?
