Hi all, im 22 this year with only psle cert (i drop out from secondary 2),wanted some advices on how to continue my studies.

Q1. Would you guys recommend me to take o level or private diploma?

Q2. O level preparation course is it too tough for me,considering the fact that i had not study for the past 7 years and i do not have any foundation ( I remember nothing from secondary school ) ( I email BMC,and they told me since i do not meet any of the entry requirement,i have to take their entry test, which i had no confidence in passing. )

Recently i called MDIS to enquire about their private diploma courses, they told me that since i do not have n lvl/o lvl , i had to go take their entry test and foundation course, but the age requirement is 24yo(mature students they meant). Which i find it quite weird.

Thanks in advance for all the kind advices.

I suggest you consider ITE, because they will teach you basic hands on skills you need in your future career, without O level. You can then progress on to higher level once you obtained higher Nitec certification.

You will need either higher Nitec cert or O levels for polytechnic diploma courses. So I would not suggest you do a major jump given that your foundation is really minimal. You may end up wasting money through dropping out because you cannot cope with level of difficulty.

Doing O levels is not recommended as you will either need to attend a crash course through private schools or self study which I think will be very difficult to get decent grades.

Good to hear that you want to continue your studies.

No N level, cannot go ITE. In fact, no N or O level, cannot do a lot of things.

I'd recommend that you at least aim for an N level, because a foundation is very important in everything you do. Just like building a house, laying the foundation is very important, else you will struggle in any course you take.

Since you're 22 and MDIS only allow people 24+ to take entry test and foundation course, you got two years. Suggest you take these 2 years to get your N level first, since no guarantee that you will pass the entry test. If you fail, then you're stuck with no where else to go.

If you got N level, you got a lot more things that you can do. ITE, private diploma, etc.

It will also help build up your foundation and prepare you for your diploma.

I agree 100% with you, since i got nothing, i cant do anything.

Do you have any school to recommend for private n or o? I read alot forums, majority of the post say that its impossible to self study at home especially for maths and science.

Ya, it is impossible to self study. Some more, study with classmates got more motivation, and someone to ask if you dunno how to do some questions. Sometimes money can be saved, but in this case, better just spend to study. Else later don't get good results, super waste time.

I don't have any school to recommend, but i can advise you how to choose a good school.

1) Go tour the schools and see which ones you like.

2) Lagi better if you can chat with the students there and see what they say.

3) Choose one that is convenient for you. Easily accessible from your home or work place. The more time you spend traveling, the more tired you are, and less time to do your own things.

Last but not least, must not give up halfway. Else waste time waste money. Remember that life is a marathon. Although you start running slower than your friends, but it is a long journey ahead.

My ex-colleague n level > ite > poly > degree.

Now he is working in a bank, earn good money and well respected because of his good attitude and hard worker.

He start off slow and did a lot of s*it jobs to get to where he is now, but most importantly, he is now living a happy and comfortable life.
