Need some advice.

Hi all, I'm intending to build a PC for gaming, as my current PC (Acer pre-build) which is running on an almost 3 year old motherboard is starting to give me alot of problems.

I've managed to change out some of the components which previously was faulty (GPU/Power Supply/HDD) but I'm getting tired of trying to stop the 'cancer' in my PC.

1) Any recommendation, advice, things I should look out for when building my PC?
2) Which motherboard/GPU/DVD drive/power supply should I get?
3) As I only recently replaced my HDD (less than 6 months ago), I intend to use it for the new PC (is this advisable?)
4) I have 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3 RAM which I tried to use on my current motherboard but wasn't compatible with it, isit possible to use it with the motherboard you guys recommend?

My budget is around $1000 +/-

1) If you intend to self-build can go for cheapest. Otherwise if you want a shop to fix it for you, then got for reliable shops like PC themes. Aftersales service is equally important.
2) What kinds of games do you play? Have to let us know. Also do you intend to use your old monitor back? What is the resolution? Resolution affects the performance.
3) Can reuse HDD if you think its enough space, 1k probably wont get you a ssd
4) You can get the non-latest motherboard to if you really want to reuse the rams. But rams are quite cheap to be honest might as well get the latest if you are spending 1k

2) World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo 3, Assassins Creed & Dead Space. I do intend to reuse my old monitor, but I'm open to options, current monitor resolution is 1920x1080.
3) Current HDD has about 600+ GB left (should be enough I guess?) What is an SSD?

ssd is like a hard disk except it uses flash memory, a typical ssd can cold boot a computer in less than 30seconds and file searching is much more faster.
