Hi everyone i have been thinking about building a pc on my own but i have no experience at all in terms of computer knowledge. i was thinking of going to aftershock instead but would really want to save on some $ by attempting to DIY.

looking into many threads it seems that this 2 builds are quite solid
MSI H97 Gaming 3 + i5-4460 ~ $391
GSkills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit ~ $114
WD Blue 1tb ~ $72
Samsung EVO 850 250gb ~ $175
MSI GTX 970 4gb Twin Frozr Gaming ~ $565
Superflower Leadex 550w 80+ Gold Fully Modular PSU ~ $129
Fractal Design Arc Midi ~ $129
LG DVD Drive ~ $21

Msi h97m g43 + i5-4460 ~ $369
GSkills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit RAM ~ $114
WD Blue 1tb ~ $72
Samsung evo 850 250gb ~ $175
Msi gtx970 4gb OC Armor ~ $489??(Can't seem to find this on tradepac pricelist online)
Superflower Leadex 550w 80+ gold full modular psu ~ $129
Fractal design r5 ~ $159
Lg dvd drive ~ $21.

i have roughly 1.5k in budget and do not need to get the monitor , mouse or keyboard. should i follow this one of this 2 builds or find another build?

also i notice that most companies such as aftershock uses ZOTAC gtx 970 graphic cards, what are the true difference between the different brands. i have seen good reviews for zotac though.

am using it for mainly gaming purposes , movies + work stuff, would not mind increasing my budget a little if i have to

would really appreciate some advice.

thank you :)

Aftershock uses Zotac because it is the cheapest so they can earn more from you mah. :s13:

In general they won't use the most expensive parts.

One of the build looking very familiar :D

An advice extract from my thread
By royfrost:

No need to spend more on mobo and gpu. If you cant squeeze in budget, dont try to change mobo and gpu to a premium level.

FYI, by changing those 2 you get nothing in terms of performance. But you pay more for something premium. Take that money and channel ot to peripherals instead. Its way much better and it last way longer in return than a higher end mobo and gpu.

Your gaming experience improve more. Peripherals goes a long way.

And armor edition is no difference vs the gaming only a step down of the cooler. The pcb the layout, the physical card itself is the same as the gaming edition.

Worse is you spend more on the mobo. It has nothing to offer in terms of performance. It only serve 1 purpose, and that is to interconnect all the parts together to work as a pc. Other than that paying more will not equate anything worth while for you.

If you wan compare mobo, http://motherboards.specout.com/compare/3787-3794/MSI-H97-GAMING-3-vs-MSI-H97M-G43

Hard to measure anything on durability imo. Like a lot of my gamer friends always tell me don't buy Razer keyboards, they spoil damn easy under a year etc but my Razer Black Widow Ultimate still alive and kicking :s13:

In the end it's up to you one lah. I owned the Zotac 970 for a brief period and sure it does what it is supposed to do, just that being the cheapest out there you can't expect it's cooling solution to be as good as the more expensive ones. Certain things are still what you pay for, but at least you need to know what you are paying for. Ultimately also must see what's your budget also. If not budget just fulfill your needs can liao. Wants come later.

Like me, if based on Roy's advice he will confirm kaopeh me say I siao lang buy Rampage V Extreme mobo for fug :(

Ehh why drag me in. I also buy mpower max ac.

Okok. Let me rephrase. Buy what you really need.

Mostly an average joe will only need a h81m/b85m mobo.

For some a h97 if they intending to go for more sata ports for more hard disk support in RAID.

Very little will ended up getting a Z mobo. It supports full overclocking features and also Multi graphics support like Crossfire at x8/x8 and SLI support. This is targetted for serious gaming or professional work needs.

As for budget constrains. Buying a h81m b85 mobo is enough. As mobo main priority is to connect all the PRIMARY items to work as a pc. Any other features are additional plus.

thanks for the advice i guess i will go for the cheaper option in terms of mobo and gpu. As for PSU, is 550 enough? if getting a higher power supply , will it affect anything? i have a friend that tells me that 550 might not be enough

Your friend regular hwz member or hardware enthusiast?

Any way, 550w is more than enough for the 970.

In a pc the most wattage draw is CPU and GPU. The rest is quite negligible.

Maxwell cards other than 980ti and titanx are very power efficient and polar bear friendly.

Your total wattage draw should not even exceed 350w-380w.

Leaving you ample overheads.

You need minimum post count. And you need photo hosting sites like photobucket and all.
