Looking for some recommendations on motherboards, chips, and gfx cards. My motherboard just died so I think i will do a revamp of my rig. I'm a moderate user, and I mainly use the PC to watch Netflix and play MOBAs. I'm thinking of a gfx card somewhere around a 1060, but am not sure if that is an overkill? Of course the cheaper the better, and I'm not looking to overclock or anything. I have a wifi card, so am expecting to reuse that also.

I won't need to change my SSD and HDD for now as everything seems fine. I also have a pair of Crucial Ballistic 2x4GB RAM so i'm thinking i can probably reuse that as well?

Lastly, I have an FSP Aurum S 600W, so not sure if that will be sufficient for this rig or should I be getting something more powerful?

Thanks guys

very long nv write custom build. let me try one with Ryzen

Requirements.
1. MOBA games
2. budget $1000

GIGABYTE GA AB350M-DS3H with 2400g $333
G.SKILL F4 2400 1x 8 gb $109
Casing(go lazada/ qoo10 find) $79
Transcend /sandisk 240gb ssd $85
Reuse FSP Aurum S 600W

total: $606, can go lower if you have coupons from lazada/qoo10

i will say this is a decent built that is able to satisfy your requirement. A few things to take note, ryzen runs better with dual ram. However, your requirements is still hard to justify for a 16gb. You may run a 1x 8gb first, and upgrade it in the future. or just 2x 4gb.
MOBA games no need 1060, a ryzen 2400g onboard gpu can do the work already. if really cannot , you may opt to get a 1050/rx570.

How old is the psu? if it's already used for more than 5years, i suggest to get a new one. Get either SuperFlower Leadex II Gold or Coolermaster V series or anything else tier 2 and above from https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

wow thanks a lot orlengtao!!! orlengtao lumber huan!

a couple of questions - is there a reason why amd 2400g? Is that is a good price performance point and are they better value than intel now?

Haha i think onboard is a bit tough for moba games nowadays ... even if i run them at 60fps (my monitor only goes up to 75) with medium shaders i can notice lag ...

Btw, i've added the PSU question on my post.

Ryzen is the best value for performance CPU at the moment. Ryzen onboard runs alot better than intel onboard. May i know what moba games do you play ? List them down so that we can check the benchmark :)

Dota and Heroes of the Storm atm

tbh i don't want to run everything at low setting so it's best to have a graphics card, it's just which one is better value for money in the long run, i don't want to change it every couple of years after all

Thanks!!!

Edit: ah just saw the PSU and the GFX suggestion. My FSP has been around for 2 years plus, so should be still ok i guess. My mobo just died after 2 years, so a bit sad, that's why just thinking of a revamp. Looks like you are optimising the GFX for DX12? Is that the reason for the rx570 rather than a geforce? They cost roughly the same don't they, and i read that the geforce saves a bit more power?

You're making me feel like throwing another few hundred and build a higher end CPU from scratch now lol

haha anyway, just wana show you.
2400g is a much better onboard than what you previously had on intel

If really want GPU, get 1050ti or rx570. should be able to play most of the moba games with high setting. Not much difference between 1050ti and rx570, see which 1 cheaper, get that.

wow you really blew my mind. I used to have a gfx card but the new model slot can't use already plus it's an old one. Maybe I will just leave the gfx slot and if I need one I will buy then. If I get a gfx card will 600W still be enough?

600w more than enough. Now with nvida coming out with second gen 2000 series, you might even get a cheap deal on 1050

Ryzen 5 2400G + MSI B450M Bazooka Plus = 368
G.Skill Ripjaws V 2666Mhz CL15 8GB (2x4GB) = 145
WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD = $89
Tecware Nexus M MATX = $59

Total = $661. Buy from Infinity
Reuse 600W PSU

B450M Bazooka Plus is one of the decent Ryzen MATX boards out there with 4xDIMM slots for DDR4

The APUs can run on 1xDIMM modules, but their onboard Vega Graphics' performance is seriously affected by running in single channel mode. Best to start with 2x4GB dual channel and then add another 2x4GB later if needed for a total of 16GB

Thanks a bunch!!!

After some consideration if anyone is interested will probably be getting the following:
- Ryzen 2400g with GIGABYTE GA AB350M-DS3H (X370 chipset for a steal!)
- G.Skill Ripjaws V 2666Mhz CL15 8GB (2x4GB)
- PSU Super Flower Leadex II Gold 650W (I'm not sure if it was my PSU that blew up my mobo ... so to be safe, just get a new one, since it is 2+ years old)
- Reuse SSD and HDD, and even my fractal case!

A couple of questions:
1. Is 16GB of RAM worth it?
2. Is 650W an overkill, taking into consideration that I may want to stick a GFX card onto it in the future?

1. 16gb ram worth the long run

2. 600-650W is good enough, for even the gtx 1080 ti

for your usage, 16gb is kinda overkill. I suggest to stick to 2x4gb first, upgrade it in the future if necessary. However ,if your budget is enough. Just go for 2x 8gb stick.

Anyway your psu, you stated that your FSP Aurum S 600W is still less than 3 years right? if have warranty, go RMA and get a new set. Dont waste unnecessary money

1) Better to spend a bit more on a newer X470 or B450 board. They tend to have fixed the issues that the older X370 and B350 boards had

2) For Ryzen, anything but Gigabyte. Their XMP/RAM support in my experience is the spottiest of all the brands for Ryzen
