Need some help with my computer

Hello! First of all I'm sorry if I am posting in the wrong zone. It's the first time I'm using the forums so please forgive me. Before I begin, let me post my PC specs.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.5GHz
8192 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

^ This was in my shopping list when I first bought my CPU parts.


For quite some time now, my computer will sometimes either be unable to start or it will randomly shut off after 10 minutes of me turning it on. When this happens, my CPU will turn on but my screen will remain black and nothing will show up. I have to either keep turning off and on my computer or wait for a period of time before it can turn on again.

However, when it does not shut off, sometimes I will experience a few seconds of black screen before it recovering and telling me that my display driver has stopped working but it managed to recover.

My first question is, can someone tell me what's wrong with my computer and how I can fix it?

Secondly, I am looking to upgrade my computer as well to maybe a 660 Ti, 680 or 760 for gaming. Can my current motherboard etc handle the upgrade or should I buy other parts? Optimally, I want to be able to run Skyrim on ultra without any FPS lag and be able to play BF4 on maybe normal or high settings.

Try to rule one one thing at a time.Clean out cpu thermal paste and reapply.Then try out one ram stick at a time ( if its 2 sticks ) .Check cpu temps and run memtest for your ram.If possible,clean out gpu paste as well.
