easiest way to look for potential gpu problem is just run gpu-z

Your processor won't be bottlenecked unless you are playing simulation games.

Solution is to upgrade to a 2080ti or lower the resolution on your monitor.

Really? During benchmark testing my GPU isn't even running on 100% and not overclocked too. 2 of the cores are only at 60% max when benchmark on Ultra settings.

lets start by identifying which exact parts are really stopping your 120fps.

ts, ur gpu, 1080 ti is from which company? can we have the exact make and model?
could you also try to do the same settings for gears 5 where the youtuber tweak the settings to unlock the fps to above 60? then try again and post. no worries if your photos cannot be shown. just link it here without the first letter h. i will post for u

Games TS is interested to make 2k 120fps
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Witcher 3
Gears 4

Ill post some of the builds done by some youtube videos to achieve 120fps
Gears 5

FPS: 120
Resolution: 1440p
GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 Ti OC 11GB
CPU: Intel i9-9900K at 3.6 GHz

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Settings: Ultra
FPS: 60-80
Resolution: 1080p
GPU: RTX 2080 TI
CPU: Intel i9-9900K at 3.6 GHz

Others

Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2019
FPS: 120
Resolution: 1440p
GPU: GIGABITE EXTREME EDITION GTX 1080ti 11GB
CPU: Intel i7 4770k @3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo)

Hey DJ Porkchop, thanks for sharing the video, my GPU is the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Aorus Extreme.

Actually if I can run most games at at least 100 FPS on 1440p Ultra that's good.

awesome. let me go find more videos to compare with your builds, and lets identify the problem from there

initially u wanted to get a 3600x with your current gpu.

i found a video with various benchmarks of that setup with only ultra settings.

Apex Legend @ 80fps-110fps
Assassin's Creed Odyssey @ 40fps-60fps
COD: Modern Warfare @ 90fps-120fps
Witcher 3 @ 80fps-100fps

the rest u can see for your own reference.
based on a lot of videos ive seen, assasin's creed odessey 120fps 2k is friggin hard to achieve with ultra.

its worth to note that many intel cpus were all hit with a patch due to a vulnerability which affected its performance heavily.

if you are fine with the fps hit with accordance to the video, u can go ahead with the 3600x.

If your cpu cores are only at 60% max then they are not capped. Let me explain a bit on the graphical power that is required for 1440p ULTRAWIDE gaming.

1920 x 1080 = 2073600
3440 x 1440 = 4953600

That is 2.39x. If a game runs at 150fps on 1080p, it would approximately be 63 fps on your monitor at 1440p.

You can see here that the fps is in that territory. His cpu is also extremely overclocked.

DJ pork chop's video shows ~80fps because it is 2560x1440.

P.s if this is just to try and convince your wife that you need a better cpu then perhaps one of our bros here can help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q591qHMJgSI

Hey thanks a mil for taking time to find those video and your advice as well. I gave up tying to run Ubisoft games with anything more than 50 fps.

Haha Plash Speed has been the talk of town lately.

I guess I either downsize to a smaller monitor or live with the current setup that I have. Btw its the core of my GPU that's not max out, my CPU's cores are all 100% during all the benchmarks I did.

Those ultra setting are overrated, I rather game with mid setting with 150fps

For the AC series, turn off volumetric clouds, set shadows to medium. You'd hardly notice the difference in graphic quality but the performance difference is quite substantial.

Your setup is actually still very good. CPU may be a bottleneck for 1080TI but only for certain games at 1080p; at 1440p, the CPU shouldn't be bottlenecking it except maybe for a few titles.

Ah I see, thanks for the heads up, I'll go and try it out!
