Hi, I have a 2.5 inch hard disk from a laptop. Is there any way to connect it to a desktop PC without buying 2.5 inch hard drive case ? Looking for low cost options. Thanks.
If the 2.5" HDD is a SATA interface drive, just connect it directly to the desktop motherboard using any vacant SATA port, you don't need any external enclosure.
Yes the 2.5" HDD is sata drive. Its a Western Digital 500gb scorpio blue sata drive. I also thought of connecting it directly to desktop sata on mobo. But not sure if desktop sata connectors supply higher voltage than laptop.

No concern, 2.5" SATA HDD is on 5volts and there isn't any electrical tracing connection for the 12volts pins to the logic board.
Even though you are using the SATA connector from desktop PSU, the 12 volts will never reach the logic board of the 2.5" SATA HDDs.
it doesn't matter, its all the same, even im using my laptop drive in my desktop too.
