I'm planning to build my first pc, so I need some opinions as I'm still green at this.
Here is the specs:
Mobo : asus maximus vi formula/hero
Cpu : i5 4760 (no need i7, going to overclock only when broadwell arrives)
Gpu : r9 290
Psu : cooler master silent pro 1000 W (gonna sli in near future)
Storage : samsung 840 256gb & 3 TB caviar green (currently own another 256gb ssd to be used as primary storage with the samsung 840, caviar green as media storage)
Case : bitfenix shinobi xl
RAM : G.skill ripjaws Z 4x8 gb 1600 MHz

Monitor : dell u2713hm
Mouse : razer mamba / death adder
KB : corsair k70

No need OS.
Several questions I have:
1. Ban leong is selling formula iv extreme for $139, shud I get it? Or go with vi formula or hero? Watercooling sometime in the future.
2. Gpu. Go with amd or nvidia? Will get a gtx 780 if nvidia.
3. Is 1000W still overkill even with x-fire or sli?
4. For ram, the price of 32gb ripjawsZ is not very different from 16gb ripjawsX (referred from mynextcom). I'm aware of the different clock speed, but doubt it is worth going with ripjawsX
5. Lastly, any peripherals u recommend me? Is the razer mamba and corsair k70 good?

Thanks a lot for taking ur time to read my post, I know it's quite long.

2. GPU? I am sure you can check the price/performance and make that decision.
3. PSU? 750W is plenty unless you intend to SLI?CF or something.
4. Ram? Go for 8GB rams at at higher speeds as your oc will benefit more. I have 2133 rams at 7-9-9-31 which is nice for $239 (2x8GB)
5. Mouse? you do well by testing out the mouse physically.

Broadwell may NOT be compatible with 8X series mobos. Haswell refresh early next may not also be compatible either.

You don't need a 1000W PSU. And there are better brands than CM for PSUs.

Are you planning to run so many VMWare instances to require that much RAM?

Before buying a mechanical keyboard,
a) learn what mechanical keyboards are, and the differences between different switch types.
b) try it out in a shop (or shops). All different switch types (at least the Cherry ones that are common).
c) think very hard whether you actually need one.

If you can't tell the different (common ones at least) switch types apart on a blind test (ie pick up a keyboard, press the keys a few times and figure out the switch type), don't bother.

I'm planning to build my first pc, so I need some opinions as I'm still green at this.
Here is the specs:
Mobo : asus maximus vi formula/hero K

Cpu : i5 4760 (no need i7, going to overclock only when broadwell arrives) K, but Broadwell may not be compatible with Z87 mobos

Gpu : r9 290 Wait until non-reference coolers appear/get DIY aftermarket cooler from Arctic Cooling

Psu : cooler master silent pro 1000 W (gonna sli in near future) Get a proper Superflower/FSP/Seasonic/Corsair or shame on you ;)

Storage : samsung 840 256gb & 3 TB caviar green (currently own another 256gb ssd to be used as primary storage with the samsung 840, caviar green as media storage) 840 Evo/840 Pro/Plextor M5 Pro xtreme or Intel 530 from Amazon

Case : bitfenix shinobi xl K

RAM : G.skill ripjaws Z 4x8 gb 1600 MHz K

Monitor : dell u2713hm K

Mouse : razer mamba / death adder Deathadder 2013, Logitech G400/G400S or don't bother getting any mouse

KB : corsair k70 Filco/rosewill (CM/Ducky if you want LED bling bling) keyboard or don't bother getting any keyboard

Thx a lot guys, ur inputs help me a lot.
Unclemun, thx, I think I will get the r9 290 as it is ard $200 cheaper and I'm going to x-fire, but 1000 W is still overkill as said by maeda?
I didn't know RAM's clockspeed make that much difference ..
Maeda, broadwell not compatible with lga 1150? I didn't know that! Lucky I asked ... :)
I don't really need 32gb ram, but I do run one or two VMware. And I thought of getting 32gb cause the price difference is not very different from the 16gb ripjawsX, though they do have different clockspeed.
And yeah, i do own a mech keyboard currently, so I know how different they are compared to membrane KB, thx for the tips

Arklaw, u think it is worth going with maximus iv extreme? Since broadwell may not be using lga 1150 socket, I figure I might as well stick with ivy bridge
I do t think I mind of the gpu cooler, since I'm going to watercool in the near future
For psu, why? I didn't know cm has such bad rep. in PSUs
For KB, again, why? Corsair no good?

Best get a maintstream but feature-rich H87/Z87/Asus B85 Vanguard mobo with 4670 non-K

CM high-tier PSUs are OK. Thing is, if you're going for CM's higher end which are generally above-average, you're already in the bracket to get much better regarded and respected PSU from the likes of FSP/Seasonic/Superflower/Corsair

KB, if you can, spend on quality. Filco may be plain for your taste, but believe me, nothing NOTHING can beat the prestige and quality of Filco keyboards. Even myself using a fairly good CM Quickfire TK, I can feel that Filco just has that build that no other OEM/manufacturer could achieve. How would I know? Previously had a Filco but sold it because of blue switches and parents wanting a lighted keyboard

Sli need 850w, more than enough.. anyway, 1000w isnt enough, get corsair ax1200i better. More wattage = better in ts terms.

He is like my fren, see high and big numbers is defined to be good/best.
