Earthquake causes an avalanche. All the ice fell into a high water body trapped behind sand and rock debris. The debris collapsed releasing all the water, sand and rocks.

It is not. The "earthquake activity" that they recorded was actually caused by a glacier that broke off and collapsed and hit the bottom of the valley. There was no earthquake

Ice dam

Bingo.....Apparently, something caused a glacier and its accompanying vegetation and mud to drop into a river. That glacier then became natural dam. Previous days saw rainfall as well.

When the gathered water became too much for the dam to tahan, it will burst and flood at crazy speeds.

You see the before after pic some posts above, completely buried underneath. Even if surviving the "flood", soon will pass away from lack of water and/or succumb to injuries.

Rescuers won't be able to reach them in time.

No, it was the glacier avalanche occurring that registered a 5.2 equivalent to an earthquake on seismometers. There was no actual earthquake.

Think the debris and boulders carried by the water will smash the buildings, glass windows, even if building still standing mud/water will fill any space, will be miracle if survive the crush

flash flood, landslide, avalanche, earthquake… many things have no warning at all. Or sometimes there is a short time possible but enough to give some time to go for safety

last time there was a case in usa where the flash flood lead to many camping students missing. A siren system was in discussion earlier but due to the expensive cost, it was blocked by a vote. The local tax paying community that voted against it must have regreted big time
