Using VPN, you are accessing US library, with most likely to be served by their US servers. While accessing local SG contents, you are likely served by their SG cdn servres which physically are in SG. This may explain why.

How you know the video quality degraded?
The quality degradation is very obvious. You can try watching cartoon shows, i.e. Angry Bird Toons. The birds' outlines become a bit blurry when watching on VPN compared to direct.

with the launch of Netflix in sg, you can now watch Netflix canada, Netflix Japan and all the netflix that is available worldwide

Signed up for it and now in the 1st mth trial. Find that the number ofbshows and movies are notnas many as i expect.
Will Netflix SG gradually add more titles to it? Anyway Arrow is showing Season 4 in US but Netflix only has up to season 3

Netflix SG has very few movies/shows, hence the alternative is to get a VPN or smartdns to bypass the region lock.
I read somewhere saying Netflix SG has only 10% of the Netflix US collection.

Even Netflix USA do not have as much movies as i expected. Their movies are quite old so i cancelled the service. Even Bruce Lee movies in Netflix too.

I am currently signed up for Netflix SG. I just got Purevpn for 1 yr and activated the OpenVPN on my Asus router. I was able to see many new titles on my netflix account. However the new shows only managed to load up to 25% before stopping. Do I need to have a USA Netflix account? I'm hoping that my SG account can watch the US contents with VPN.

Please do not use VPN and use SmartDNS instead which bundled with your PureVPN subscription.
It's much much faster than VPN.

Use smart DNS on the Tv will be able to watch Netflix US.

Hah ayeah the movies are really old. I decide not to continue with it but i have keyed in my CC details when signing up for trial.
How do i ensure not to get charged by Netflix?

For those, got VPN/SMartDNS/Proxy/etc etc....., try other countries such as Korea/Japan they have other Tv Drama which the US Netflix don't have. Trust me, You may Enjoy Japan Netflix^^ Do also look out for other countries

Just cancel and they will email u to confirm that it is terminated. Just check your cc statement to be sure.
Thanks for the tips. I used the online chat support for purevpn smartdns. Apparently Smartdns is now an additional paid service (US39 per annum). However the customer service was nice enough to give me a free 1yr service as I paid for 1yr of vpn service. I configured WAN on my Asus RT-AC88U router and I was able to watch Netflix USA.
Only thing was I tried to watch some adult videos on my LG tv web browser and was block by mda.... Great tips, appreciated.

u mean, without the purevpn dns, the adult videos were not blocked?

I think you mean, they were not blocked if you use purevpn, but blocked when use smartdns.
Yes you are right. With VPN set on my router direct, they were not blocked but Netflix US can only load to 25% before hanging.
