Netlink problem

I have just renovated an old shophouse. The M&E people have been trying to get Netlink to install the optical box for almost 3 months, but NLT kept stalling. Finally the contractor contacted a friend in NLT and got the box installed. The optical terminal was installed 2 weeks ago. I was there and I watched 5 guys connecting the optical box outside to an optical box indoors, testing for lights glowing at the ports. They assured me that the link had been activated and I all need was to get an ISP to connect a modem.

I contacted Singtel, who had been the ISP on the previous house. But they insisted that NLT has no record of my house being connected and activated. In fact, they would not even let me subscribe.

I contacted Viewqwest, thinking a smaller company would work harder. They were much more accommodating but they also said that NLT does not have any record of connecting to my house. But they were at least willing to spend time contacting NLT about it.

Still no ISP. I am logging in via mobile hotspot.

Is this normal? how can NLT connect to my house and not keep a record?

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?

Thank for any idea.

So many questions.

You say it's a shophouse. Even the residential component of shophouses are normally considered commercial, therefore you can't get residential broadband installed, only business.

For business broadband, if you go with Singtel, they would install their own optical termination point and not depend on Netlink. Even if your place is somehow considered a residential premise, any proper termination point installation by Netlink would come with a job sheet, which you'd have a copy of when they're done. It looks to me like some kind of illegal tapping was done, whereby an extension was made from a neighbouring unit (which explains why there's no official record, since the point doesn't belong to your house!). That's just my guess, however.

What's strange is that you said you contacted Singtel but they didn't even want to let you subscribe. Again, if it's considered a commercial property, Singtel can install the fibre point themselves and would certainly want your business. You're probably not calling the right hotline.

You do realise of course that business broadband costs a lot more than residential but you may not have a choice.

He may have called the residential internet Customer Service so they will not allow him to sign up as his property is consider commercial property so they say no.

IMDA is the same as MAS to the banks.

Yes, if NLT classify your address as a commercial address, you would have to sign up as a business fiber.
Because your location was wired up recently, I believe the records haven't been updated somewhere along the chain.

Try other ISPs like M1 or Myrepublic, their customer service might be more willing to go the extra mile.

I am quite certain this is not a commercial property. I live here, and there is no shop on the whole street. It is actually a conservation house. If Singtel or Viewqwest have an issue about the subscription fees, wouldn't they have informed me of the proper fees, instead of running the risk of losing a customer?

Actually Viewqwest is working on it. I hope it works out.

Classified as commercial property, please tell netlink to consider to reclassify. You need to supply documentary support that it's not a commercial pty.
