I just had the worst kind of experience at Companion Animal Surgery.

My girl was severely ill and had vomited blood.
I brought her to Companion Animal Surgery after calling them and told them about her. They told me to bring her in.

When I reached there, the guy at the reception in scrubs told me to fill in the registration form first. He then told me that I have to wait an hour coz the vet is seeing other pets whose owner had made appointment earlier.
At no time did he even glance at my girl.
I asked him what if my girl dies during this one hour and he just shrugged his shoulder giving me a 'too bad' look.

What kind of veterinary practice would do this to a severely ill animal that just vomited blood???

I swear I will never ever return there and will do my best to dissuade everyone I know from going there. They have absolutely no love for animals!

not good, wasted all those precious minutes going to companion
should have gone to the other vet straight
by the time we got there her blood pressure was so low she was going into shock
her blood volume was way too low so had to give her IV fluids via her jagular
now still at vet
hopefully she'll pull through this crisis

really regret even considering companion
now i keep wondering if i had not gone there (and therefore precious time wasted), she might not have been in such bad condition... :(

hows is your doggynow
she is still at the vet
we just ran another blood test today but the result wasn't too good
she'll be on iv fluids on a few more days and we'll see how it goes from there

now the question is how do i know if it's time to let go...:sad:

she's actually a cat
she has been fighting chronic kidney disease for the past two over years
i guess her little body is saying too much

right after i posted my above reply, the vet called to say she has crashed and they are doing CPR on her
she passed on after waiting for me to rush down to see her one last time

now i will forever wonder if the time wasted at companion might have made a difference...

They don't care your cat live or die.

what they care about is money.

It's a one sided story. For me if I am in consult with another pet owner and an emergency walks in then I'd just inform the pet owner that I got to deal with an emergency, most will understand and be patient. If they are not, then too bad.

Sometimes got 2 or more emergencies all walk in at the same time, in that case the most severe case will get seen first. I always recommend pet owners to be aware of where the 24 hr emergency centre are located and also to call the clinic in advance

I did call the clinic to inform them and they told me to bring my girl in
When I got there the guy at the recep told me I have to wait for the vet to see those with appointment first
If the vet was dealing with another emergency I would have understood
But to see those with appointment first? I've been to enough vets in SG to know that that's not the norm...

Whole point was that the recep (in scrubs no less) didn't even bother to check with the vet or anyone else
All he has to say was that I will have to wait, even if my pet was dying

I wanted to share this experience of mine so that others will be aware and avoid Companion should your pet require urgent attention
Rather pay the money to call your regular vet back then to waste precious time going there...

Perhaps they Companion Animal Surgery f..ked up big time or perhaps you are in the anger stage of grief.

In my experience, even way before this happen I would have "the talk" with owner. When a loved one is diagnosed with terminal illness, the love makes us want to do everything and anything to save that pet's life. However, as advanced as vet medicine has become, there are limits to what can be done. I would go through the need to spend quality time and do things together before euthanasia.

Most people dont realise how unpleasant death is, I always say to remember them as they were not as they are. It is far better to remember them, health and happy rather than choking on their own blood and going through dyspnea. Sometimes pet owners who waited too long often tell me their pet's last days were not very pleasant with a rapid decline in quality of life and lots of pain.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear in my first post...

I was looking for an emergency vet as my cat just vomited blood
I called Companion, told them about it and they told me to bring my girl down
My girl was not under their care during that time as she was seeing another vet who wasn't open during that time

I know what my girl has, Chronic Kidney Disease, is terminal and non-reversible
But I also know that with the proper care and good veterinary support CKD cats can go on and live a long good life

This vomiting blood thing is not due to her CKD and I do (will always) wonder if she had been supported would she had made it pass this crisis

The whole point of me starting this thread is to let others know so that they will not make the same mistake and their pet do not suffer as a consequence.
To me, the vet techs (guy in scrubs) are as important as the vets
I will not want a callous vet tech to be anywhere near my pet

I've started this thread hours after I visited Companion
My girl said goodbye five days later
Yes I'm filled with grief and anger now, and will be for a long long time
If you ask me am I angry with Companion, I can't lie and say no I'm not because a part of me will always be wondering if they had provided the much needed support might my girl have made it?
When we got to the second vet, her blood pressure was so low they almost couldn't get a reading.
Her blood volume was also too low for them to even draw blood for testing.
I believe if I had waited that hour at Companion I would have lost the extra five days with her...

Was browsing for reviews on animal clinics and chanced upon this thread.

Recently my 5 month old puppy passed away suddenly after we had him for only one month plus. He looked perfectly in the morning before we left for work but we returned home to find him in a state of shock. We immediately took him down to Mt Pleasant (East) where the vet diagnosed it as pneumonia. After all his x-rays/jabs/medicine, the vet told us we could bring him home to rest.

On the way out of the clinic, he started salivating and the vet told us he was trying to vomit. Feeling uncomfortable, we brought him to the Whitley branch where they have someone monitoring his condition throughout the night. The nurse there informed us that he was having seizures and it was worsening his pneumonia and affecting his breathing. Once again he took all the jabs and was put on oxygen mask. We only left the hospital between 2-3am for a quick rest and quickly returned at 7am plus in the morning. The vet was about to send his medical report to a specialist but unfortunately he passed away at 8am. Until now we didn't know the cause of his death as my wife didn't want an autopsy on him (did not want to cut him up). My wife and I had other dogs in the past but it was the first time something like this happened to me.

I sometimes wonder if my dog could have been saved if I had brought him to another vet instead from the beginning. I did some research online and all the major animal clinics had 1 or 2 bad reviews about them occasionally. At the end of the day, I guess it really depends on luck. If your pet survives, you think they are good and if your pet dies, you think they screwed up. For me, I definitely won't be going back Mt Pleasant again. The whole place just reminds me of my dog's last moments.
