Have just read that the new 9-Week PES E BMT will be a stay-in program unlike the 4-Week one that it will be replacing from November onwards, which was stay-out across the board regardless of excuse status.

Could anyone please advise on what would the arrangement be for enlistees who have Permanent Excuse (Stay In) in such a situation?

Umm... yeah... but I'm wondering how would the arrangements likely be, since the course is by default a stay-in one so it would probably have some overnight components etc.

Would be good if there's someone who were in the first two intakes this month who are also excused stay-in that can shed some light on it. :look:

Lucky you lor. if you stay very far will you complain?

There's no point in complaining right, since I'm not supposed to stay-in under that excuse status. No reason to complain about what is essentially a privilege either.

Anyway how far apart can two places in Singapore be, considering that we are just a tiny island? I already spend close to 2 hours per way travelling to-and-from my temp job so I'm quite used to making use of the commute to relax or get things done while on the way.

In any case, I'm glad to stay out even though it means more miscellaneous costs (transport, etc.), as I have some post-trauma issues (related to the condition that I felt uncomfortable to share about in my first post about being stuck in PES D) that invariably triggers my mood anomalies in any dormitory-like environment. I can't even stay in a hostel's common rooms (or enter it) without getting hit by a panic attack or emotional breakdown.

Wondering what are the new stuff that they have introduced into PES E that required the BMT to be extended by 5 more weeks and for it to be changed to a stay-in program though :s11:

Well there are people who complain about having to travel so far when they already have the privilege to stay out. Then when ask them to stay in they give all sorts of excuse that they cannot stay in.

Can you stay in hotel when you travel or you don’t travel?

Maybe more like ppl complain about PES E no stay in so not fair. And maybe also some PES E complain they have to travel so far. Rather than having something new.

Yeah I have friends who live in the east who grumbles about the travelling distance to their camps in the west, and they are not excused stay-in, but were lucky (maybe "unlucky" for them?) to be posted to stay-out roles/units. Some of them had the option to request for bed allocation in camp if they wanted to but yet chose not to ask for it :s13: .

I can stay in hotels or home-stays since the rooms are not the shared common dormitory style (as in like a military bunk or class C ward kind of arrangement). i.e. "normal" bedrooms.

If it's to quell those complains they could probably have to just change it to a stay-in program? Doesn't seem to make much sense to extend it by 5 more weeks if there is nothing new added since PES E BMT is supposedly already super lepak with a lot less stuff to teach compared to the combat/combat support versions.

In a way, yes. I'm a subsidised patient so sometimes my doc would liaise with the admitting department to make special arrangements for me to be put in one of the single observation/isolation rooms in the ward or lodge me in a single-bed ward provided they have enough spare beds in those.

If not available then I get sent home on hospitalization leave MC and wait for availability. My insurance does cover up to single-bedder private class but I try to choose subsidised class as much as possible so as not to overtax it.

I don't get hospitalized that much though. Probably a little more often than most people, like perhaps once or twice a year, but nothing near as frequent as some cases that I have heard about.

Yes and no really.

I'm not clinically diagnosed to be enochlophobic or agoraphobic, but as a result of my condition I tend to have a considerably lower tolerance threshold for crap, so my ability to maintain a normal mood does erode a lot faster than a normal person when stuck in a crowd, which can and have lead to panic attacks or outbursts of anger before.

It's especially bad when there are rowdy folks or noisy children around (e.g. loud and rowdy groups of YPs or the combo of screaming toddlers+irresponsible/inconsiderate parents who play dumb because they imagine their kids have some sort of divine right to be a public nuisance are a surefire formula to trigger this).

Yes, but depends on the route.

Some routes tend to have more civilised passengers then others, while passengers on certain routes are basically modern day barbarians (I won't talk about which are the routes here) and I would avoid travelling to those places.

Usually I would be one of the first to raise an alert/complaint to the crew if there is a rowdy passenger or kid running amok inflight.

What if the crew can’t do anything? Emergency landing?

Never encountered an incident of that nature where they can't do anything so can't say much on that.

Probably I'll breakdown when my tolerance wears out lor.

Anyway emergency landing due to problematic passengers is not unheard of.

Btw, all these out of topic liao leh.

don't worry too much.

if you are excused stay-in, then you won't stay in.

just follow the instructions that they will provide and do as they say when the time comes.

Thanks.

Yup, will just take things one step at a time since this is such a recent change in the system and the number of people who have experienced it and can provide some anecdotal advice is thus comparatively small.

Have called the camp to check and they said just bring my enlistment notice and NRIC, and ignore the other items on the list. Was told I will not be assigned to any bunk since I'm permanently excused stay-in.

Just hope there are more similarly excused platoon mates so I won't stand out too obviously and become the company bulls-eye =:p
