I'm planning to get a Samsung Evo 860 1TB (from Amazon) to run games. I do have an existing Sandisk SSD 256GB where my OS and software are installed.

I suppose better to install the OS (and all the programs) on the Evo? Do I have to wipe the Sandisk? It's running fine just too small and almost completely full.

Thanks much!

option 1
get a evo 970 256 as your boot drive n Evo 1tb as gaming drive. Sandisk sell at caraohell. :D

Option 2
OS use Sandisk. Evo 1tb as game drive. Sandisk uplorry then buy evo 970

have fun!

You do know that a qlc drive is inferior to a tlc one in terms of endurance, right?

Whats this endurance problem?
I've used 750 evo for almost 3years. It's only like 1-2 TBW
They will last longer than when you itch to change

Maybe not much impact for your usage pattern. Still does not take away the fact that endurance is lower as bits per cell get higher

A MLC cell rated for 3k cycles vs a TLC cell rated for 3k cycles, which one has higher endurance?

Let's see some real numbers shall we

The following are the TBW ratings of 1TB drives:

850 EVO: 150 TBW
860 EVO: 600 TBW
860 QVO: 360 TBW

Is there real world example of this? Usually seen mlc has higher cycles than tlc

Edit ah i see you're comparing planar mlc to 3d tlc.

No I'm not comparing planar mlc to 3d tlc. I'm just pointing out the fact that number ratings are a thing, and where they are available they take precedence over whether the cells are mlc or tlc or not and whether people think mlc has higher cycles than tlc.

It's the same as asking the question which is heavier, one kg of feathers or one kg of steel.

For real life examples, please see the post above yours.

Yes number ratings take precedence over what technology they use. However when all things are equal, ie planar mlc vs tlc, mlc does have higher ratings as taken from this article

https://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&doc_id=1327904

Slc pe cycle 70k
Mlc pe cycle 17k
Tlc pe cycle 1k
3d tlc pe cycle 20k

Transfer speed of 1TB 860 Qvo. The transfer speed drops off to 70-80MB/sec after some time.

I replied to this old thread coz can't find any other thread on 860 QVO.
