Broadwell-K coming 3rd June........

And i recommend dropping overclocking ability on CPU, HSF and motherboard for better graphics card and PSU.

I would be able to drop the overclocking ability, but i won't know what motherboard to go for that have onboard wifi and the i5 processor that's non-overclocked that's more geared towards gaming.

For broadwell-k, i just intend to use this setup for 2 years max before upgrading/selling it off. So yeah it's mostly temporary before i go back to studying

I think you can have a better PSU and throw in a WD Blue?

Sent from 10kkj using GAGT

Why WD blue and not black tho? This rig will mostly be used to play games~

Black is not worth the money IMO, 100 dollars can get you 2TB for HDD. Can opt for Seagate/Toshiba 2TB. Not really speedy also...

The ODD is really unnecessary,is the motherboard good? And why would you recommend the Spec 02 instead of 03?

Motherboard offers you the ROG look on the cheap, primarily aimed at gamers. IMHO SPEC-02 is more chio. You can go down and take a look and compare them. Consider a USB based WiFi adapter to replace the ODD.

Most of the stuffs we recommend here are for a certain reasons. If you do not buy our ideas, by all means please do more research before shooting questions to us. Not meant to be rude. But a necessary research will be good.

1. Theres no need to overclock a cpu for gaming needs. It offers negligible performance in gaming. Most important is a gpu that brings in the most performance.

2. And if you research further, you will know that you wont need a z97 to do overclocking. You can use any chipset as of now to do a simple multiplier unlock for K-series unlocked cpu.

3. If you really need wifi, just buy a board with a seperate wifi module. Dont be bought by the idea that the board has "build in wifi". It was never build in. Its just a add on wifi module to the mobo.

4. You dont need the fastest HDD on earth when you have games installed in your SSD instead. It has no great performance value if you use a black HDD. Furthermore you have your OS installed on SSD and that matters most of the performance. Not HDD.

To be fair, while i can do research on my own,im just asking for opinion. Its not like im disagreeing or what not im just weighing the pros and cons of what i am going to buy.

For the over clicking issue,it's just something i want to try and do but if it just give neligible improvement, im fine with not having it . From what i research only Z series mobo are over clockable but then again i could be wrong. I know its an add on module that you connect through usb in the mobo for the z87 pro.

Sorry if i sound lazy or offensive towards this thread but take into consideration that i have minimal knowledge in this area that's why im asking for opinion on what to change and what not to change

It's not that you ask but how you ask. It's hard to express tactfulness online but you have to try. People here don't give template answers to every rig questions and they take time out to give tailored answers to specific enquiries. So have to chill la Abang. There's no other forum that has this strong local perspective on pc building.

Im chilled. I just felt that the way he express his opinion on this thread is as though he put it across as im just not putting in effort. To be fair when others put their input i just want to know what they see better (ie the changing of mobo and processor to a cheaper one so i can get a better GPU) that was well explained

It depends on ur priority

Do u focus on gaming more ? Do u need that extra ghz from cpu for say editing purpose ?

U can basically overclock with any board, but u need a k chip to do it, generally its not worth to do it unless u wan to do benchmark or multitask alot with it.

U need to spend like $150-$200 just to get a taste of overclocking or Channel the $ for a better gpu ? Its up to u.

If u need wifi just get a usb adapter instead, inbuilt wifi is decent but not worth that extra $80-100 unless doing a itx build

so whats the whole spec you have in mind?

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4460 + ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer @ $342
RAM: G.Skill RipJaws-X DDR3-1600 CL9 8GB Dual Channel Kit [Red] @ $114
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB GAMING OC @ $565
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB @ $175
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB @ $70
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
PSU: Super Flower Leadex Gold 550W [80 Plus Gold] @ $129
CASE: Corsair Carbide SPEC-02 @ $84

Pretty much this removing the ODD and maybe changing the ram and case to spec 03 and corsair pro vengeance ram
