New Desktop shutdown while gaming

I just built a new desktop, on the first day of testing while playing overwatch, my computer shut down, powered on briefly and shut down again. This happened for about 10 times before I press and hold the power button.

I waited for about 10 seconds before powering it on again, it powered on briefly and shut down once then powered on and boot as normal.

I tried to replicate the problem to find out what caused the issue but then the next few days I used no problem at all. Gaming/Benchmark etc all never caused it to happen again.

Can anyone advise what problem am I facing?

MSI Z270 Krait
i5 7600k
Deepcool captain 120
EVGA 1070 FTW
NZXT Hue
Toshiba 2TB HDD
Sandisk Ultra 240GB


Secondary question, my deepcool captain 120 cannot maintain temp below 80 degrees while doing prime95 even when I max fan & pump speed. It start from 60 degrees and rise to 80 ish degrees in 10 mins sometimes hitting 85 to 90 degrees max. Which then i stopped the prime95 test as i am not sure if it is harmful to the cpu. Is it the Singapore Temp or maybe I have not put my aio properly? While gaming it maintains about 60 to 70 degrees.

I did not do any OC. If any, it may be the MSI program that I have downloaded and installed. Should be auto OC.
I have reverted everything to stock by resetting the motherboard to default.
My ram sticks are 2666Mhz but from the software I am reading 2133

i will recommend:

1. Revert any OC you have done on your PC and test again

2. Temperature is a bit on high side. Check the mounting of CPU cooler and also check if you peel off the plastic attached to the copper base of the CPU cooler before mounting

3. Do a memtest86 to determine if RAM is ok

Check the RAM and CPU voltages are on default or not.

auto-overclock or manual overclock ?


if manual overclock in steps then there would not be surprise by temperature spike such as this

higher temperature would cause the cpu overclock to be unstable ... but where it happens is purely anecdotal evidence , go check out overclock.net forums ....
auto-overclock software don't understand this part ... it only have to hit your OC target and it doesn't understand the consequence of prolonged high unsafe temperature

most likely u oc ur chip right. reduce the oc.

running benchmark never crash dosen't mean anything as daily usage is very unlike benchmark. also, how long did you run prime95 for? stability is running it for hours, not 5 min then nth happen means stable

for my overclock last year I used 13 loops of that x264 benchmark ..... took about 2hours .... raise ram and cache clock and redo 13 loops to confirm
then +0.002v to make it more stable after I had 2 or 3 BSOD in the first month

go overclock.net forum intel subforum ... to get the download link

x264 benchmark is not as hot as prime95 or intelburntest
closer to my real life usage too ....

I did not do manual overclock. Even on stock prime95 will reach more than 85 degrees within 20 minutes.
