New diy recommendations

Hi guys. I have a special friend of mine whom wants to build his own rig. But unfortunately he know nuts about pc. So he came to me and ask for recommendations, and i will be building this pc as a upcoming birthday gift for him.

I wanted to build an mITX setup for him. But he insist on something bigger. He is a gamer, plays starcraft 2, l4d2, diablo 3, crysis, some fps game, battlefield and some scary **** games that i dont even know what is it. Has a home theatre system setup. Would want to connect to his home theatre while playing his games.

His budget $1k(or rather my budget). OS, internal sound card needed, Keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, dvd drive dont need. Ssd optional for OS installation and wifi build in would be a plus.

His current pc mobo emitted huge black smoke when his maid accidentally knocked a pail of water into his vent hole and it sipped into his mobo. Till date cant turn on. Neither his hdd is moving. Tried drying it up but to no avail. Using a HP brand. Running on core 2 quad cpu cant remember the series.

Nowadays, size doesn't really equate to computing or gaming prowess.
Hdd not moving due to the mobo shorted, i guess.
Could look onto the Recommendation thread for a rough guide and slowly customise here and there with your budget in mind.

Ah. Thanks for the quick reply. I was looking at the possible mobo suitable for him. I was looking for an mATx form factor and probably with wifi. So far for 1150 not much of an option. Not much of mobo are selling in sg. Hmmmm

I'm no guru, but a Haswell i5 with a non-oc mobo would do it.
Casing would be your headache as it sort of determines the Graphics card that are suitable.
8GB of affordable ram is good enough
Could get a 128GB Plextor SSD for OS, and additional 500GB/1TB HDD for storage.
Optical drive is needed for installation of OS.
OS I'm guessing 160-180?

Your friend knows nuts about computer, so non-OC options are good enough as that equates to no need for aftermarket cooling options

Yes he does if it is possible inclusive of sound that is bypass to his amplifier.
