New GPU but old CPU, should I upgrade?

I was gifted a 1070 TI GPU for Xmas, and I wanted to try for qHD gaming for newer games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Battlefield V. Don't think I want to go for 4K right now.

Problem is, I realized my old CPU is holding back performance. Current specs:

Intel I5-4570
Asus Z87 Pro
8GB Ram

I looked through Carousell and found affordable I7-4790K CPUs - problem is, there appears to be a compatibility issue with the MOBO according to PCPartsPicker, and I'm not sure if I should upgrade to a more modern CPU.

asus z87 pro can support haswell-r provided its bios has been updated to >=2005 (2003 to be precise but i generally dont recommend updating to a beta bios)

Just update the BIOS and you can use the i7-4790K just fine. You might also want to consider adding another 8GB of DDR3 for $50 to $60.

The CPU is fine but barely manageable not to bottleneck your GTX 1070Ti by too much if you game at 1440p and above.

I feel you should upgrade your display to 1440p high refresh rate like 144hz at least to maximise your GPU.

Alternately like what u are doing, you can get a 2nd hand i7 4770k or 4790k to further extend your system's longevity. But just bear in mind the costs to ensure you are not spending too much until getting a new system altogether is more cost effective.
