Just installed a 6950 on my fairly old rig,
450w Asus psu
P5l 1394 mobo
E6600 2.4ghz processor
Previously using 6600gt pci e video card

After fitting in, during boot up, the computer can't make it past the bios page, and sometimes just shows cmos checksum bad, never been able to reach even the windows loading screen since fitting in the 6950, I then reverted back to my 6600gt and everything was back to normal, is this a case of insufficient power?

So it's Definetely psu problem? I'm getting a new one this week, just worried that this may be caused by other faulty hardware

In theory that gpu and your whole system take less than 450w, I think your psu degrade already.
