Hi guys, planning a network system for my new home need some ideas. Red cross is my ont point and blue cross is my intended point for direct cable internet connection. Im just curious if the wifi is strong enough to cover the entire house in this case if I use an above average router (which I havent decided on). Open to ideas

Is this new BTO flat with LAN ports in the rooms?
One router (blue cross) or two routers (one in red cross and the other in blue cross)?

If one router, it may be challenging to cover Bedroom 2 and Study room.

Not BTO, old resale unit. Planning for one router on red and one router on blue at the moment. Would that be sufficient?

Most likely good enough.

If you choose to go for M1, you can consider getting the Asus GT-AX6000 as the main router in blue cross. Give it a try first to see how it goes. It is one the best Wifi 6 routers in the market and the best from Singapore ISPs.

If not good enough, then you can add another Asus (eg: RT-AX55, RT-AX58U or RT-AX82U or RT-AX86S depending on your budget) as the AImesh node in the red cross.

Yes it will work. It's just a series of daisy chained cables.

It will work.

I am using this method for powering my 2nd AP in my MBR located on the other end of my apartment with some dead spots.

Hi All,

I need your advise on my set-up. M1 technician came to my new BTO 4 room for installation today. Like fellow bros recommended here, I relocated my D2 lan point in the living room to be beside D1. RT-AX82U was placed in the living room and RT-AX53 was placed in my study room, but then I realized RT-AX53 does not support Aimesh system, thus technician only set up RT-AX82U in the living room and RT-AX53 could not work when placed inside DB box, thus my desktop in study room depend on wifi now.

What can I do now? buy ax55 to set up aimesh or can I continue to use ax53?

I got buy DB TL-SG105 Switch but technician told me that there is no use of it but I remember fellow bros did recommend having it. Hope to receive any kind help here, thanks.

you can set up the AX53 as an access point (settings - admin - ap mode). aimesh is basically centralised control of access points, which makes life a bit simpler.

a bit more config eg ssid, login etc but relatively minor stuff.

give it a shot. if not comfortable, then get a AX-55.

if you only have 1 LAN wired connection to the router, the switch is not needed. Still, good to have as an option if you need the connectivity later on. if not, can skip for now

Hi I need some advice on how to set up my home internet as I'm a 1st time flat owner.

I'm starting my renovation soon and I will be getting the M1 1gbps with Asus GT AX6000 router deal. Aside from placing the router at the DB box location, is there anywhere else in the house I should place it in order to get stable WiFi connection in every corner? Daily usage is basically watching YouTube, scrolling Facebook and some moderate gaming.

Not sure why I can't upload image of my floorplan. I will try to upload later when I can. It's a 4 room BTO. Appreciate all feedback.

it is better to put the router at the tv area, to do this, you need to have 2 lan ports side by side at the tv area. may be you want to include this in the renovation if your existing lan port in the living room are not co-located.

most important thing to do now is to make sure that there are lanports in all rooms, so that you can install router/access point in future to get wifi covered in all areas.

start with one router at tv area. if the router cannot give the coverage, install another ap using the lan port you prepared earlier.

If your DB box is not in a central location and it blocks wifi badly, then it is a bit wasted to put the good wireless router like GT-AX6000 in the DB box.

In that case, during the renovation, make sure you have two LAN ports (near to each other) in the place you want to put the GT-AX6000, say living room TV console area.

It seems to me that new HDB flats often have two LAN ports in the living room but too far sway. If that is the case you need to pay the contractor to add one more LAN port in the TV console area.

Connection scheme:
ONT in DB box -- patch panel in DB box -- living room LAN port 1 -- Main router (GT-AX6000) -- living room LAN port 2 -- patch panel in DB box -- Dumb switch like TP-Link TL-SG105 below S$30 in DB box -- LAN ports in bedrooms

In case WiFi is not good in one of the bedrooms, you can add the cheap RT-AX55 as mesh node (about S$80 BNIB from Carousell).

Met up with the electrician yesterday. Told him about having 2 lan ports at my TV console area and he replied that he will pull the lan port from my DB box to my desired location.

Is this correct?

Try to go through the 4 videos in this post to learn more about Home Networking in Singapore context. Hopefully you will be able to answer your question after watching the 4 vidoes.
