Currently, my new HDB has what seems like a lan splitter.

Anyone using the new lan point can confirm how it works?

Nice photo. But there is a catch in the photo if the ONT is in the DB box and not in the living room.

Usually the RG has the wireless function and the wireless function will be severely degrades if put in the DB box.

Unfortunately powerful wired routers are usually for more advanced users, like Ubiquiti, MikroTik, DIY pfsense or OpenWRT types.

Of course one can put a decent router and disable the wireless.

Or use a more complicated method of putting the RG in the living room, but then have one switch in the DB box. In this case you need two network ports in the living room.

you can try my setup , it is pretty secure , Sophos is quite good

XG home firewall (using mini pc with dual wan, you can search zotac mini pc fanless type)
Aruba Access Point POE - 1 Lan cable is enough (1 should be enough to cover your whole house, if you deploy centrally in your house)
Smart Managed Switch 8 port should be enough

Interesting one. The Aruba APs seem to be highly rated. Which model are you using?

How is the Sophos free XG Firewall Home edition?

Technically you do not really split LAN, you need devices like Hubs or Switches to do functions like that.

But if you are referring to like 4 ports on the wall, and each port is connected to a certain room, yeah that works. But it is not a splitter. It's just wiring one port to another port somewhere else.

What you should be more concerned with, is what catergory cables are running in the walls. If it is below CAT 5e, that would be a problem.

on the AP12 now , will upgrade to AX once it is more popular. AP22 is about 300 bucks now only.

makes more sense than changing the whole router

the firewall works great . more than capable for any home use. features wise it is as good as any corp firewall
might setup dual wan soon enough , if my current ISP keep giving issue.
