New help with assembling a new pc

Totally new to these stuffs so i have almost zero idea with regards to building a cpu so pardon my basic questions.

1) I'm still a student so intend to spend roughly $7xx-$8xx on a new rig and OS excluding mouse/monitor/keyboard/speakers. What are the recommendations?
2) Must be able to run dota 2 level games.. Games like battlefield COD level are not required since i play them on consoles.
3) Is there a place where i can just turn up with the list of items i need for the rig and the shop will actually build it for me and i just cash and carry the built rig?

Since your budget is quite tight can consider ivy bridge setup instead and you arent gaming intensively on PC since you are gonna play on console.

I estimate the PSU requirement by adding up the CPU and GPU TDPs, and the estimated power consumption by the remaining components (rough gauge). Then I look at the +12V of the PSU model and see if it is sufficient. I also look at the general quality of the PSU model.

7750 requires 500watts 7770 is optional. 7750 is a decent card aswell

7750 TDP = 55W
7770 TDP = 80W


GPU Amps requirement (Utilises 12V rail)
80W/12V = 6.67Amps
55W/12 = 4.58 Amps

Do the same to CPU

What you'll derive is actually significantly lower than the rated Amps and Watts of the FSP Raider 450W. You sure it requires a 500W PSU?


If its an PSU made by bad manufacturer, its justified to get a higher wattage PSU just in case it cannot deliver specs as marketed on paper. If its made by reliable PSU makers like Seasonic, FSP, Delta that don't really overblow their rated specs, you can safely assume their PSU would be able to run near rated specs.

Just saying that the FSP Raider 450W is ok for a system that somewhat like what Royfrosty suggested.

Disclaimer: I may read too much Jonnyguru...

Like someone said before: FSP is capable of better quality stuff, but what they come out with is somewhat disappointing. Case to point: FSP Aurum. The voltage regulation, ripples, transients, etc tend to be poorer compared to Seasonic, Superflower, etc. The fan on the Aurum is considered noisy (see various reviews).

FSP Hexa is just a bland unit, without much to write home about. It is cheaper than the Seasonic S12II/M12II units, but it lacks the quality found in the Seasonic units as well. You get what you pay for.

The requirements given by AMD and Nvidia are to cover their behinds in the event that the card gets paired with a 225W AMD Centurion, or a Sandy Bridge E overclocked to 6GHz using LN2, or the PSU is a $20 piece of junk from Walmart/ (there is no local equivalent).

I'd be willing to use one of the Seasonic 460W with Gold efficiency in this unit if cost isn't an objection.

Just the M12II (semi-modular) or S12II (non-modular) series enough liao la. G and X series are more for those 24/7 usage one la.

Besides the price differences, what are the main differences in layman terms? For e.g. is getting the more expensive one necessary? For games like dota2 etc (note: not intending to play intensive games like bf3 fc3 etc)

What's your screen resolution?

7770 is sufficient for Dota, but if you want to be more future proof, a more expensive card is always better...

Dota 2 dont need untill 7850. Just the 7770 will do.

But of cause if you have the budget then get the 7850.

Resolution should be 1920x1080

My budget is abit tight so I'm wondering whether it is necessary to get the more expensive one for now. Especially with the existing other non high end parts only.

Will i be able to play newer games next time but at lower settings with the cheaper one? Or i won't be able to run intensive games at all? Not even at lower settings

You can still run at low. Shouldn't be an issue. If budget tight then just get the 7770 ba. Wait till you got money then sell away and make the difference to get a better one loh.
