New hopes for AMD!

To be honest, it will be really great if they are able to match Sandy/ Ivy Bridge performance. I feel Intel is starting to become complacent over time looking at the meagre performance improvement over the years after the release of Sandy Bridge.

Don't think it's being complacent, it's definitely intentional. I'm pretty sure Intel are just holding their extra cards close to their hands. It's like sandbagging in Formula 1. When you know you have that big a lead, you'll never want to show your rivals your true potential.

That aside, I personally think Intel are reaching the ceiling in terms of optimising their single-core performance with current technology and base architecture

Should cover the low to mid range market.
AMD does that well last time.....until....Intel took over this sector.

Intel plucked a lot of low hanging fruits in the x86 instruction set with their heavily evolved PIII based architecture. They still aren't on the same level as IBM (may never ever be).

That said, Intel is more concerned about competing with ARM than AMD. Their current top management came into office after being grilled by the board on their mobile strategy.

Don't think so they are just shifting focus to power consumption fight on ARM. Performance may not progress fast high up but efficiency is.

Mainframe = IBM

That leaves mobile up for grabs. And I agree that Intel is more keen about ARM. They're so far ahead of AMD that they'll just continue to release their products with slight performance bump against AMD's road maintenance vehicles in the consumer market.
