I had the same problem. Mbp still under warranty till 2018. Found out my battery is slightly bloated, went down to apple shop for them to diagnose.

During the check up, they also noticed something wrong with my LCD panel, supposedly something to do with the coating on the panel.

In the end I got to change my battery and a new LCD panel foc.

battery swollen is a different problem, I believe it is considered as product defect which is covered by AppleCare for sure. I had this experience too, my late 2013 rMBP battery was swelling last year, hard to press/click the touchpad, I sent it to a.lab, and they replaced battery, touchpad and keyboard for free.

"service battery" could be a product defect too, or just a normal operation loss, will see what they will say...

nice, that the single reason why applecare is needed. there was a anti-reflective coating issue. mine have similar problem too. mine looks like that. hope they will replace it too

do you have problem with the rubber feet? mine seem to be like flatten and breaking.

Anti-reflective coating, they will change the LCD for u.

I have the same issue, brought it in and they change the LCD panel as well as the battery (which include new keyboard and trackpad).

While for the rubber feet, it is common issue for mbp before 2014? Cant rmb. But that one not under warranty, consider as wear-n-tear.
I rmb I kp with the apple care support till it reach the management level and after many emails and calls, they finally decided to change for me free. They will change the whole btm plate.

My late 2013 rMBP also had the problem about the chipping off of the rubber ring on the LCD Panel. Sent it to A.lab, staff refused to repair for free although it is still under 3-year AppleCare. I called Apple Support, someone from Australia finally agreed to give this as an exception, he informed a.lab not to charge this case, so, I got new LCD panel.

My late 2013 rMBP has been sent for repair 2 times last year, battery / LCD panel / keyboard / touchpad, all got changed for free, this 3-year AppleCare is quite useful.

Just sent it in on Tuesday. Yet to get my machine back.

ETA either 5-7 days or 3-5 if quick, according to the genius.

Don't think they will reformat. Wasn't told about it. But they recommend to do a backup in the case of data lost.

yes of course, it is important to do backup too.

because the battery is together with the keyboard and trackpad right?

that why they rarely change the rubber feet because they need to change the entire bottom plate. my 2010 mid mbp also had the same rubber feet problem in less than 3 years and they didn't change it too. guess i didn't kp enough. out of all the component, i think that is the faster part to cui beside the battery.

that why i always insist on Applecare for mac. imagine the cost for replacing them without applecare.

the iOS devices don't really need applecare.

yes. in fact they also replace LCD panel for free, there is a dent on the corner of top case, i accidentally dropped the laptop long time ago, now it is changed too... sounds like a opening sale to me, as long as you have AppleCare, they will not charge.

I think there is a long queue for repair right now at the Apple Store.

I sent in mine on tuesday, than on Friday I was in the vicinity and check with the genius on the service progress. After checking, he told me I'm still on the queue waiting for the device to be repaired.

Today is Sunday and it is still not ready for collection. I guess I will only be able to collect on Tuesday. 😞

I thought they should be able to replace the battery on the spot. Probably should take only 10-15. Mine has no more warranty so I am thinking whether to do it at Apple Store or some other third party shop.

I just came back from the Apple Store.

The battery test shows failed and hence it quality for a battery replacement.
while waiting for the battery test, the staff noticed the anti-reflective coating problem too. I didn't even mention that to him yet. And so I will be getting a screen replacement as well.

All in all, it was a good experience.

However I did not leave my mbp there for repair because they mentioned that it will takes about 5-7 days. Shall wait for my off-peak work period before i send it in.

That's good news isn't it! Coming to which, I also have the anti reflective coating issue, but not very serious and not very obvious around the iSight region. I just wonder if I go down just for it, am I too gian png?

yeah, of course it is good news. that why i always say applecare for mac is very important.

I won't say it is gian png, it seem to be a factory defect that shows up after a while. and we aren't the only one affected. when your applecare finish? maybe go when it is nearer to expiring?
