New PC parts recommendations

Hi,

My boot SSD just died on me, and multiple SATA ports on my aging Sandy Bridge system have been finicky for a while, so I think it's time for an upgrade.

Thinking of a Kaby Lake i5 on a small form factor ATX (mATX?) motherboard on a small form factor case that can house 2-4 3.5" HDD and an SSD.

Any recommendations on motherboard and case? I think the I can probably settle the rest.

Case criteria:
Small form factor
Preferably support full size ATX PSU as I'd like to reuse my Andyson 1000W.
Supports at least 2 3.5" and 1 2.5" HDD/SSDs (1-2 more is better)
Supports ODD
Minimalistic design
Good thermal and noise performance


Initial draft specs:
intel Core i5-7500
Asus Prime Z270M-Plus or Gigabyte Z270M-D3H
2x16GB DDR4 memory
Samsung Evo 960 250GB M.2 SSD
WD Blue 6TB
WD Black 4TB (existing)
Andyson MT9 1000W (existing) or Seasonic M12-II-520W

Any glaring problems or better suggestions?

Rest assured. Fractal Design stuff is good. Thermal is definitely okay, Define series is known for low noise, since you will be getting no window version, there should be a noise dampening material to further reduce noise.

Why consider Kabylake i5? Get MSI B350M Mortar/Asrock AB350M PRO4 with AMD Ryzen 5 1600.

Probably no window, how's the thermal and noise performance?

I dont use that case myself, I use a bigger case (node 804) for my htpc.

thermal temps are good. maybe a little higher for me since Im running a stock fan (and a really old board/cpu combo). Building is an ease. No noise for me at all. Sometimes when I'm doing encoding on it and cpu is 100% then I can hear a little noise when walking by, but it doesnt really bother me.

Yeah my gaming days are long over, will probably be using iGPU. Haven't really kept up with the Ryzen, but IIRC initial reviews show it competing on the high end but not really in the mainstream, at least price wise?

Ryzen not necessarily meant for gaming. Having 6 cores 12 threads can have so much potential in multitasking and heavy cores and threads workloads. You can explore so much more if that interest you. Pair with basic gpu like gtx 1050 ti, you'll be up for almost any kind of work load, yet doesn't break the bank so much.
