It may be too troublesome for me to DIY a PC. Any suggestion for a ready-to-use PC from any of the shops in SLS or buy one from the branded-market. My usage is surfing, email, and Autocad drawings. I want a more reliable after-sales service, rather than looking at the price alone. I am also thinking of use it for 5 years, at least. So, it must be well-built and mostly advanced technology (more RAM, high capacity SSD, 64 bit OS etc....). I do not mind if any of the amateurs here is willing to build one for me, as long as you give me your warranty.

Any suggestion or recommendation (with price), thank you in advance.

If talking about OEM branded pc, first thing is price. The rest are secondary since u cant customise the parts to suit ur needs.

My usage very generic, email, surfing, autocad drawings. I do not think I need a gaming PC. Price, of course, depending on the component that they offer. Thanks anyway.

OEM products normally doesn't include SSD. Even if they do, the minimum cost of it is normally more than $2k. It is rare to find an OEM products with SSD inside.

Further more, buying a $2k desktop but mostly basic usage is a huge waste of money. It is like buying a expensive sports car in Singapore but there is no way using it for racing.

OEM products doesn't allow much customization. The most that they will offer is just extended warranties and monitors.

Since you are not doing heavy rendering, photoshop, etc why more ram? Base on your usage, 4GB is enough. More ram does not means better performance. You will only see better performance if you have software that requires it. Basic usage and autocad drawing doesn't require much ram.

actually there are OEM desktop that include SSD but it is very expensive (more than 2.8K++) and also yes limited customization.

Since you say you will be using for 5 years, upgrading essential because definitely space might be an issue (most brand, give a max of 2TB), if not you can get an external HDD. Also, we have customer that after warranty end want to upgrade their HDD and found that the power supply from OEM PC is not able to support additional HDD or better graphics card, so they have to change the whole PC.

mostly people that go for OEM are going for service and hassle free. also some preferred to buy from retailers instead of SLS reseller due to credit card installment (0% interest) and etc. It depends on your preference.

it depends on you, long term wise DIY might be more cost effective for you but if you are the type that are not into DIY. I suggest you to go to the shop and take a look at the product before you buy.

Basic specs:
CPU: i5 CPU
GPU: 750 and above
HDD: 1TB/2TB
Memory: 8GB (minimum in most OEM PC)

Thank you for all your replies. I did go down to the shops to take a look at the different products that they offer. However, it seems that everyone of it will be able to meet my requirement. Should I go for the cheapest one? Anyway, it seems that it will be equally difficult for you to make a decision for me.

Dell XPS 8700... less than $1500 if you downgrade CPU and take everything on minimum. 1 yr on site warranty so you might wanna upgrade to 3 years.

Just wondering, are you incapable of making any decisions on your own? Based on that statement. Macham we owe you something... :s12:

His initial post already said amateurs for us, so better let companies like aftershockpc do the customization for him

I find aftershockpc quite reasonable pricing, and he can consult their staff directly.

We don't kenna BBQ by TS

Win win situation

TS, there is one thing in this world. There is no such thing as a free meal.

I know you are going for after sales service etc, but an OEM pc will cost a lot more if you want everything the latest specs, and till date OEM has never been really latest specs. Most OEM pc are equipped with a low end gpus etc. With very little customizations available whether now or in the future. There are some forumers here whom have OEM pc faces difficulties in upgrading in the long run. Such things, are used in OEM pc are propriety type of components, such as custom BIOS, custom PSU size, some additional connectors thru their front I/O such as card readers etc.

And TS, FYI, paying more does not equate to can last longer, nor can it be futureproofing. Upgrading it does.

You can build a DIY PC entirely on a distro brands that they carry other than Processors and Hard Disk.

Corbell: MSI board, ADATA or GSkills Ram, Silicon Power or ADATA SSDs, MSI GPUs, Xigmatek or Lian Li Casing, Xigmatek or Seasonic PSUs. Anything wrong you could dump the entire PC there, and they will troubleshoot for you.
