it was at SGD$125 previously, before dropping to $115.

the 240GB had the greatest drop, from $215 to $189.

it seems that not all SLS shops had update their pricelist with the new pricing. thus, please do check with them, as some might be slower in updating their pricelist as they would prefer to exhaust out the older pricelist before printing new ones.

I'm interested in the Crucial 500 for my laptop. However I realise the idle power consumption is damn high, at like 1W. Is there any firmware update that can solve this?

1W not going to make much of a difference on your battery life considering how much more the other components draw.

Yup but one reason I wanted to buy an SSD is to improve my laptop's battery life (currently only about 3.5 hours but I want to push it to 4). Right now my HDD idles at around 0.74W. But I wonder if on average the power consumption of the SSD will be better? I do mainly MS word and website browsing on battery.

Buy a ssd even though it might not improve your battery life, the speed bump alone is worth getting one. :D

Since when adding in a ssd will improve battery life of a laptop by a lot...

things load faster on the ssd. you get increased speed therefore higher productivity. time taken to finish the task is shorter. :o

If I'm not wrong if you surf the net and read stuff the SSD is considered idling. Not too sure though.

SSD is definitely much better than a HDD on a notebook usage, due to the following.

1. faster read/ write on FLASH as compared to a mechanical HDD
2. slightly better battery life due to the above
3. SSD are cooler in operating temps

as for battery life with SSD, it actually would differs among different individual usage, as there might be loads of background programs running which is consuming your battery too. however, in our own usage, we do experience slightly longer battery life when using SSD in the same scenario.

yup. have just confirmed that the M500 series M-SATA SSD are on the same pricing too.

Seems like eplanetworld has only update the SATA price.

The M-SATA is @ $ 215.00 (is this the discount price?)

Crucial M500 240GB mSATA SSD 240GB SATA 6Gbps mSATA Internal SSD
$ 215.00
