Might be a little bit of double posting because of similar issues, rectified once but problem is back again.

Purchased a PSU Superflower Leadex 550W 80+ Silver SF550F14MT for my rig to replace my old Andyson F650. Initial boot-ups were slightly unstable. Working smooth until after 3 days, system turns on for a split second and goes off, even the PSU fan.

After hours of rectifying and trying to isolate the issue (I have tried to remove my AIO pump, SSD, RAM, GPU one by one, just the mobo + psu / + cpu) to no avail. But I just plugged out the ATX 24 pin and put it back and it worked. Though during the next day it failed on me again, same issues. Got another PSU exact same model at Videopro the next day (picking up the same model was not intended).

However, 2nd PSU (same SF550F14MT) also not working the first time plugged in. Did the same thing re insert the ATX cables and system has been smooth for 3 days so far.

Current issue is I am installing the 1st PSU which I feel is still working on my friend's rig. Gets the exact same issue again, totally not working. PSU powers up system for a second and powers down. Motherboard is still powered though even after the PSU fails. Need to turn off the power from wall socket then can attempt to turn on PC again, otherwise no response.

Going to call TechDynamic to enquire and possibly request for RMA, however meanwhile anyone has got any solutions or ideas why is this happening?

TLDR;
- Purchased 2 Superflower 550W SF550F14MT 80+ PSU
- Worked unstable and finally not working, turns on and off immediately
- Tried reseating ram, disconnecting SATA, Molex, GPU, etc. just bare breadboard
- Cleared CMOS
- System powers up normally when powered by spare Andyson F650.
- Tried reconnecting the PSU cables and all tightened
- Both PSU failed the paperclip test (1 pin on PWR and 1 on GND) (turns on and off immediately)
- PSU are brand new sealed from 2 different vendors

Specs (if that matters)
Asus P8Z77-V LK + i5 3570K on Swiftech H220-X on stock voltage and speed
/
Gigabyte Z77-UD3H + i5 3550 on stock HSF

Any help will be appreciated, TIA

*edit: might suspect cable spoil but it did work and not work and work again on two occasions so may not be the case. some may speculate is mobo + case short circuit, but mobo is still supplied power and system runs fine in the casing on my spare Andyson PSU.

I though u already send it for rma??

Pretty busy with work these few days, getting last minute assignments so I wasn't able to send for RMA.. The Videopro unit is now working stable in my rig so far. But the first unit is still giving issues.

No I didn't, just the PSU, however noticed the PSU fan starts spinning and stops immediately.

That is what should happen if you don't have a load on the PSU. :) Try it again with a fan.

Try taking out the board from the casing. May not be dead PSU. I face it before. Short circuit due to casing. Put in casing don't work, take out everything ok.

this could be true, the mobo wasnt mounted properly. i encountered it before.

Currently my rig is working stable so might not want to touch it anymore. I will try to power the unused unit with a fan tonight.

Is it still possible that my mobo and casing short since my spare psu works well with the same setup?

Also will try to arrange to dismount my friend's mobo from casing and try. will update on progress. Thanks everyone for suggestions

from what i see its all due to psu, since ur mobo still working fine with ur spare psu.

Initially that's what I thought too until both units gave issues, cannot be so unlucky both units sort of DOA. Now I'm thinking of the chances that my mobo and casing is shorting even though my spare one works mounted and unmounted

update: psu failed the paperclip test with a brand new corsair fan. does it mean 100% psu dead and rma confirmed? tried calling tech dynamic but the automated redirecting system on the phone doesn't working..

Confirmed.

Quite unlucky to have two bad PSUs in a row. :)

If this is so, that means u will need to send for repairs. Since phone does not work, try sending emails and see if they replied.

The currently dead PSU was actually sort of DOA, couldn't boot up until after several tries, crashes once from cold boot and runs fine for 3 days until it went poof.

I have tried to contact TD via their website but they have yet to get back to me. I stay in the west so Chai Chee is pretty far and due to work commitments I am unable to find time to head over.

Pretty damn unlucky to have 2 bad PSUs in a row.. or is it just this specific model since googling the model number actually don't give much results..

I think Videopro has a 7-days one-to-one exchange (call to check first)? Might be easier than going all the way to Chai Chee.

The Videopro item is currently working in my rig, the one I bought from t258jgn is the one that's dead right now :( (The Videopro unit is the second unit purchased)

The first PSU that is dead right now is purchased on 16th May. The Videopro unit is purchased on 22nd May. Both exact same units

That's why I only stick to 2 brands when it comes to PSU:

Antec or Seasonic :s12:

Don't Superflower Me :s13:! And no Corsairs, CoolerMaster, Thermaltek. They're good for gaming peripherals. But not going to trust them for power supply.
