New RAM Card Issue

Last week I went Sim Lim to buy a 4gb DDR4 2133mhz ram stick to add on to existing 4gb one. Everything is the same except the brand. After installing cannot boot up pc. Tried removing new ram card but also cannot.

End up after taking it in and out a few times managed to boot up. Checked /dxdiag and task manager both detected 8gb of ram. But now, it just fails randomly. Sometimes totally can't turn on at all.

I'm severely out of my league and I'm wondering if I damaged any thing when I installed it.
1) Pretty sure I installed it correctly, there was a click everytime I insert in the ram stick
2) PSU is working because can see my motherboard got RGB lights when power source is turned on even though cannot boot

Hoping someone can help me out or somewhere I can bring it down to for diagnosis.

Does your board have newer bios version ? Sometimes the updates improve ram compatibility. Go to your board support page to check.

Tried removing new ram card but also cannot.

try clean ur old ram sticks with a soft eraser, rub clean the golden contact fingers...

Hmm probably is can't even boot up now to check bios.

Tried cleaning but to no avail.

Motherboard is asrock h270 performance. Original ram stick is avexir 4gb ddr4 2400 cl16 1.2v. New ram stick is crucial 4gb ddr4 2400 cl17 1.2v.

could be but have u tried to make sure the latch is full open and push it in again to ensure that its locked?

If you push the ram in and it clicks in, it should be locked. Please do not shake the ram when the system is switched on. It may damage the ram or the slot.

It definitely clicked when I put it in.

I know I shouldn't be touching it when trying to boot up. But it only managed to boot up after I shaked it a little. I'm wondering if I damaged it previously when I first installed it.

Anyway, since it has booted up. Check and update BIOS if necessary.

u should have never mix rams with different brands. always stick to the same brand/pair if possible. but yeah. do check n make sure ur bios is up to date. and try switchin ram slots

Yeah...I was told it would be ok. Will update bios and monitor...

Hopefully it's just bios issue.

It will be ok. Your PC may be running for sometime. So make sure you vacuum the dim socket before installing new ram.
Also make sure you pull the power cable off from power supply to kill the 5V standby voltage to mother board. Depending on your BIOS setting, voltage may be present at ram slot all the time.

Not sure if your motherboard is 4 slots for ram or 2 slots type. If 4 slot, you need to install ram on same channel. Refer to board manual for details.

Last, check your power supply if it is under rated. Marginal voltage may result in unstable start up too.

Not sure about h270 performance. If h270 pro. You have 4 ram slots. If you are using 2x4G ram. You should be installing it A2 and B2 slot.

Added: Just check the manual, H270 performance is also 4 dim slot. So you have to install as above.
