Given the price tag i think folks will go for MSI GE40 and settle for a slightly weaker GPU... Portability is nice to have but Razer chose to position their product on the extreme portability end of the spectrum while charging such a high price (probably cos they dont mass-produce, etc) so end of the day, very hard to justify it as a value for money purchase even though it is a good notebook with its share of merits.

I agree to this. However they position their product as a niche product so much so that it's not for the mass market. However if they priced it in such a way that it's more reasonable I think they would have more sales and profit(not to mention promoting their brand even more)

I believe the Blade uses a 70-something percent gamut screen from AUO so it's definitely an edge for photo editing and digital art

EDIT: yup checked google, AUO B173HW01, 72% NTSC

It is a good product, but not many can afford or willing to splurge that much money. With alternatives out there, this product/ brand can easily be overlooked due to high pricing.

Ultimately the number of people wanting to buy it will be the judge of that. But I doubt it's a concern for Razer since having a relatively small quantity of production output it's not like they have to deal with warehouses full of unsold Blades. It's not intended to be a mainstream product. Even within gamer segment it is sort of its own niche, since a 'casual' gamer wouldnt spend so much, and a 'hardcore' gamer would aim for something with more performance.

Better than the usual LCDs. Definitely a plus. I didnt believe in this but after using a 90% gamut LCD for couple of months, it changed my perspectives. Photo editing becomes much more enjoyable.

On a side note, been following Computex and saw info on MSI's GS70. Damn, MSI is really competing directly with Razer now on both the 14" ad 17.3" form factors.

The GS70 even supposedly beats the Blade's weight by about 200-300 grams and is almost a mimic of the design shape... maybe their R&D bought a Blade and reverse engineered it or something lol

(Dynaudio seems to be mysteriously absent on this thing though)

MSI GS70 is planned since last year...
It will be launched in Singapore around July period. Thinnest 17" in the market at around 20.8mm, weigh around 2.6kg with GT765 graphics. :)

Will be price around MSI GT range of models.

Looks like Razer really set a new trend going, Gigabyte seems to have joined the "extremely portable gaming" party too with their new P35K/P34K... design reminds me of those Asus N56

The P35K looks interesting to me since it's a 15.6" form factor that sits between the 2 versions of the Razer Blade, and it beats both Blades in terms of storage and connectivity (even rumoured to have optional thunderbolt).

in the US the new Blade is just going for 1799, which is at most $2340. In Singapore going for $2999, whopping difference of $659 for what????

I would want to source for some kind of alternative to buy it in the USA. Assuming that warranty is applicable internationally of course...

I just registered my interest for the 128GB SSD version for the Blade 14". Will see how much plus the shipping. If can get locally cheaper than will get that.
