Hi all, am a perpetual lurker on these forums and now looking to upgrade my rig (i5 2400 and 5850) to something that can play latest games (Fallout 4 when its out, witcher 3, DA:I) at 1440p smoothly. My budget is < 2k for the CPU only (lower is better). My criteria:
CPU: i5 cpu (cheapest one)
Mobo: No OC / fancy capabilities, more USB3 ports, most reliable brand preferred. I abit scared of Asus as my last Asus MB died on me too after only 1 year.
RAM - 8 gb or 16 gb? I dont intend to OC ram and dont care about looks, just reliability as a priority as my old GSKILL 8gb konk out once on me
. Should i just get the VALUE ones from Corsair?
PSU: reading good thing about superflowers, so as long as enough to support my gfx card (no SLI/cross fire intention in the future). Not really too fussed about Gold rating, again reliability and quality of components is most important.
HDD: WD 1 TB Blue for storage
SSD: I have a samsung 120gb one already on my old computer. Should i hoot a new 250gb one? I already have OS installed on the 120gb one. Can i just plug it into the new rig and boot? If so, i will save the bucks.
GFX: Here i need the most help. Currently im only running a 1900x1200 dell ultrasharp - but intending / considering upgrading to a good 27inch for 1440p goodness soon. So really looking at a good graphics card that can run all the new games at top settings. Keep reading review on 970, 390x, fury X, 980 ti all those but really dont know what to choose. One criteria also is low temps, since im intending to use this computer for the next 3-4 years at least, really want to avoid burning hot cards that will degrade my whole rig quicker. Would be great also if you suggest a particular 3rd party version - know nuts about them but my number 1 emphasis is reliability and quality - i dont really care if i lose small FPS or get a lower pre-OC card.
From what i read, GTX970 probably wont cut it at 1440p, so now really a question of which is the best price/performance card. I dont care whether its AMD or NV, as long as delivers good performance for good price and reliable. Used both in the past with little problems.
Casing: no clue what is good. Preference is something minimalist with no top fan (always gathers dust after few months of not cleaning), no flashy lights, relatively cheap, and large enough for good airflow and fit any big GFX cards, but in general smaller is better to take less space. Front USB/headphone jacks is also preferred!
Monitor (outside of 2k budget): any recommendation for good 27inch? I really love the ultrasharp colour reproduction - but atm 27inch is like 800 online, so wondering if any other brands are good but slightly cheaper.
Oh - last thing is that i will probably buy all at one store and build. Last rig i do at PCT, was OK so probably i will go back there again. Abit scared of going to Tradepac to fight...
