Hi Guys,

I have been out of the DIY scene for a good while now. I have some specs in mind, could someone advise if the specs makes sense?

Case: Corsair Graphite 600T
PSU: Corsair RM750W
Mobo: Asus Maximus VI HERO
CPU: Intel i7-4770K
HDD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (This one bought already, cannot be changed)
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600Mhz CL9 (Kit of 2) (8GB x 2)
GPU: Asus R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

I have a question on the RAM, i have seen some gaming rigs online that use the i7-4770K and they use 1866Mhz RAM, but the CPU only seem to support 1600Mhz. So by using a faster RAM am I under-utilizing the RAM?

And for the GPU, it's a toss up between the Asus R9 280X and the Asus GTX770 DCII. Any comments on this?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Ya looking at overclocking at a later stage, hence the K model for the processor. Ya mostly the rig will be used for gaming.

Hmmm Just curious, why get 4770k and so high end board?

This board is high end ah? I was actually thinking of getting the VI formula. lol.
So what CPU do you recommend? I was actually thinking of getting water cooler in future and OC the CPU to about 4.5Ghz. But if you think there is another CPU, please share with me.

Thanks.

board is ok i used to use it now upgraded to formula essentially the same except for custom loop cooling and better looks/build quality and audio

4.5ghz or not really depends on your luck of the draw. im on 4.4ghz stable with my 4670k and i need 1.36v to stabilise it. yes true my temps are only around low 70 during stress test and i can push higher but tbh the clock difference doesnt do anything for me

also do u really need an i7? rather buy a better gpu since 4770k wont make a diff in gaming

Hmmm I think 4670k is enough for gaming if you don't need the hyperthreading technology ba. Btw if I'm not wrong every Cpu ocing capabilities are heng sway thing, and that Asus line of mobo is slightly pricey compared to other brands uh

So I guess a lot of you guys are recommending the i5-4670k. That is about 100+ saving on the CPU. So what GPU should I get since I can add another 100+ to the graphics card?

290 lo powercolor or gigabyte the rest should be not enough even with the $100 top up unless you willing to top up more

I am not in push pull, only pull air out from the rad to outside and I am not in air con room
I use prime 95 to test.

Hit 81 deg max.

that explains :)

ambient mine around 21c u compare to 33-34c ambient its a huge diff especially for the radiator it will disippate more heat to surroundings in order to maintain the equilibrium

my push pull is also intake from outside case into case not exhaust from case so i get the coolest air

i use aida64 FPU,CPU and CPU Cache settings stress test
