New Rig Budget 2.3k to 2.5k

Hi Guys, I'm planning to build a new rig with specs as below and need some advices.

- Asus Strix Z270E Gaming + I7 7700K - $851 (TradePac)
- Asus ROG Leadex Strix GTX1070 O8G Gaming - $755 (Lazada)
- Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz CL14 (16GB x 2) - $339 (PCTheme)
- Super Flower Leadex Gold 650W or FSP Hydro G 80+ Gold 650W - $158~ (TradePac)
- Samsung 850 Pro 256GB - $187 (TradePac)
- Corsair Hydro H100i v2 - $185 (PCTheme)

Casing wise, I have an existing Fractal Design Define R4, so will not require a new one. Will be using Samsung KU6300 as monitor.

1) How do you guys feel about this config or is there anything that you would like to change? Maybe cheaper alternatives with same performance?

2) Will it be able to run smoothly on 3840x2160 60hz for games like Starwars or Battlefield in high settings? My current R9 270X toxic can only support either 3840x2160 30hz or 1920x1080 60hz max, and had to use a low settings.

3) Will the PSU be able to support this setup if I'm going to do some light OCing? I have 2 more existing WD Red 3TB to be installed into it too.

4) Will most likely get my stuff from TradePac, with the exception of GPU. Some prices are not listed in their recent pricelist dated 14Jan17 and thus using PCTheme's as reference. Is there any pricing wrong or are there elsewhere selling for a better price?

1. You don't need 850 pro. Get the evo or other cheap ssd (Ocz Trion or pny cs1311) and invest on ram for higher hz. Strix card is premium and expensive model, consider getting palit or zotac cards. Cheaper and the same thing. Psu Superflower.

2. Yes. But bf1 (if you have) is poorly optimized. Still you could run max at about 50-60fps average.

3. It's enough.

4. Do your homework on the prices before getting from tp. If you know your stuff, going tp is fine. Otherwise, go pc theme. Of course, other than mobo+processor, other stuff could see if lazada or qoo10 have better prices. Iirc, ram, gpu, ssd is cheaper online.

Adding on to what singupingu said, might as well get a cheaper mobo and air cpu cooler like the 212x and chiong for a zotac/palit gtx1080

Reason being the extra features on a 'gaming' mobo usually can live without and the cpu cooler dont need to go to water cooled unless u are thinking about the acoustics

Buy 1080 pair with the i7 u can confirm play high end games maxed setting for many many cny

Was debating between Palit Super Jetstream or the Asus Strix since price difference was around $150. Finally decided to take Asus Strix for the higher speed and better cooling at the extra cost. Guess I have another option to consider, which is Palit 1080 Super Jetstream, but it is gonna cost another $220 more. Can shave off $50 from the ssd down to 850 evo, so where to cut the remaining 170?

Higher hz ram is insignificant indeed. But since going oc, go all oc-able stuff. Plus it's only like 20 bucks more.

For gpu, you can always oc your palit sjs to match Strix. 3 fans are gimmicky and I forgot I read some where, despite 2 fans on palit, performance is still the same as Strix and equally capable on oc side. So to me, the mere 5% (or less) better don't justify the 150 extra bucks to pay. Just my two cents.

I doubt I'll do any sli, and the PSU probably can't handle 2x GPU too.

650w is enough. Relax. If still worry go 700w and above hahahaha

This seems pretty attractive, but seems too good to be true as most places sell 32gb 3200mhz for $400+. The description kinda bugged me too - Title says 16gb x 2 while the description put 8gb x 2.

Why the sudden suggestion for 850w PSU? Won't it be overkill and the extra power not be utilized at all?


And now I'm torn after rereading the specs. How significant is the difference between 1070 and 1080 to justify the price difference of $376? Comparing both Palit sjs 1070 ($602) vs 1080 ($978)
Something like 1070 can last me 2 cny while 1080 can last 3 cny? lol

Not too sure whether the lazada post legit or not. Plus 369 bucks on the line there lol. Can't advice you to this.

650 is okay with minor overclocking. For heavier, 750 is safer. Using online wattage calculator, which you could Google for one, I put cpu 5.0 GHz overclocked @ 1.37V Vcore, 2.2GHz core 3.2GHz memory overclocked for gpu, 1 aio water cooler, 1 ssd, 3 hdd, 2 led strips, 1 PCIE wifi card, 4 sticks of ram, fan controller, some USB devices, gaming mouse and kb. The maximum load possible with all components running at their max at the same time is 700+W. So a 800W is safest. But 750W is sufficed coz no way you would utilized fully so much wattage out of your pc other than running benchmark.

I'm in the "GO-FOR-1080" camp unless you really need that i7 for... Reasons. Like work! Then you're no fun. JK. Consider trading down the CPU and Mobo for more moolah for the 1080 GTX, which, in my opinion, yields more gaming wise.

Like many before me have said, qoo10 or lazada might have discounts, but in my opinion, i'd sooner just buy it all from pc theme. it's just that the guys there are more easygoing, and I don't have to gain some white hair with the guys at tradepac (they're nice, don't get me wrong)

Yup, found a nice deal at lazada but price seems too good to be true ($50~ cheaper than everywhere else).

I'm tempted to order it and just refund if the product isn't really the TridentZ 3200 32gb.

Anyone had experience with bad scamming merchants at lazada or those who refuses refund?

1. For 4k 60hz, go for gtx 1080. Or wait for amd Vega or nvidia gtx 1080 ti. Launching in couple of months from now (finger crossed)

2. Not too sure about it too. You could try since it's under lazada buyer protection. Good luck.
