Hi guys,
Planning to build my own rig during the early august. Came up with a list of hardwares and hoping to get feedbacks and reviews about my list.

The rig I planning to have is currently a mid tier type of rig and planning to upgrade and most probably overclock in future.
Mostly used to game like Dota2 / L4D2 / BF4 / Crysis

Here goes:
CPU: Intel i5 4690k
Motherboard: MSI H97 GAMING 3
RAM: G.Skill RIPJAW 1600MHz CL9 (4GB x2)
Graphics Card: Asus GTX 750ti 2GB OC
PSU: Superflower HX 600m 600W
HDD: W Digital Blue 1 TB
OS: Either Windows 7 / 8 (Not sure as well / Google aint helping with decision making)
SDD: Not sure if i should have 1 or not

And I am also wondering if the build in GPU in the CPU is enough to play some games at the moment such as Dota2 first in the meantime before saving enough to get a solid GPU.

Do give me any feedbacks if its compatible or not or if there is parts that should be replaced for better performance or for a better value.

Many thanks!

hmmm IGPU is solid enough to play Dota2, but i advise you get the rig as a whole, cause by then might have some new stuffs come out then you can get the similar specs at a lower price. (Ps not sure how long you are gonna take to save the money) BTW, if money is an issue, you can get the B85boards, which are cheaper and does not have much features difference from the 9 series board. lastly if you wanna overclock, you have to get a aftermarket heatsink and also a z series board.

Hey thanks for the quick reply man! Appreciate it.
My Budget is somewhere along the 1200 mark. I was thinking about getting a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 evo along the line when I overclock it.
about the board, is an MSI B85-G43 Gaming suitable?

and a question on overclock, is it a must to get a z series board? it seems only some boards are suitable for overclocking.

if you are not overclocking, yes a b85 gaming is suitable, using one myself. But also if you are not overclocking, get a non-k cpu cause k cpus are for overclocking, beyond that no difference as the others.

If in terms of i7 and i5 overclocking, yes a z series is a must, however there is still very few b85 board that lets you mild overclock like one from asrock iirc. As for pentium anniversary series, you can overclock it on most b85/H81 series, but it is only for the pentium series.

Last point to note,1.2k can't go far for overclocking and also decent GPU

hmm.. alright, do you think there is much difference between a overclocked CPU vs a non overclocked CPU in terms of performance?

and btw any recommendations of a build that allows to play most games probably in High or ultra settings?

Many Thanks!

For gaming: B85 board + i5 4570 @ stock + GTX760 >>> X79 board + i7 4960X @ 5GHz OC + GTX750ti

Now thats really something. Now I'm being swayed to lean onto stock CPU. It seems that performance wise is mainly dependent on the GPU itself.

Btw by GTX 760, which one do you meant? Do all brands of GTX 760 functions the same way?

Many Thanks!

Unless its the g3258, u oc a lot difference. Btw gtx760 all brands perform the same just some slightly cooler, less noise and looks if you mind. Hahaha psps just switched off con can't give you the exact price, but 1.2k ah... Should be can get
B85-g43 gaming/b85 killer + 4460
G.skill 8gb ram
1tb WD blue
Mx100
Super flower hx 500
MSI 280
Sharkoon bd28

Do check the price yourself at the pricelist section. Should be around 1.2/1.3k

All brand GTX760 function the same way. The only difference between brands and models is the GPU cooler type used, any factory OC setting pre-applied, aesthetic looks, and warranty coverage by respective distributor in SG.

From 2nd gen Core onwards, regular i5 performs the same as i7 in games with the same GPU. Only very little ultra demanding games see benefit using i7, and the benefit margin ain't huge.

Hey thanks man.
Just some questions.
is the Asrock b85 killer is the same as the fatil1ty b85 killer?
and i saw a bundle price of palit gtx760 2b with Cooler master 500W thunder, the question is, if the cooler master 500w thunder good? online reviews from google didnt really show much. So which of the PSU you would choose between CM thunder or Superflower?

similarly, saw a bundle showing zotac gtx760 2b with the 500w thunder at a slightly cheaper price. so palit and zotac gpus work the same way ya?

many thanks!

I would say if your budget can fit then just take ba. And if you want take the 280, remember what games you want play, if you are playing dota, 750ti plenty of headroom for you le

Choose superflower HX500, it is a 80+ gold cert and semi modular too.

Different brand's graphic card are just like cars of different brands(Mercedes, Honda, Nissian, etc). All cars perform the same task. (Drive it to reach to your desired location) What so unique about different brand's car is that they offers different special features for their car. Understand the logic?

Nvidia produce a vanilla edition of graphic card and sells it to brands like ASUS, MSI, Zotac, etc to customize(Use better cooling fans, shrink the size of the pcb, overclock it, include freebies, etc) and sell to consumer at a higher price.
