Hi all,

My current PC is about 3 years old and looking to upgrade so I can play BF2042 smoothly. Below are the specs and it's very laggy even when the settings are all set to low:
  • Ryzen 1600x
  • Asus B350M-A Prime
  • Crucial 16GB PC4-2400 DDR4
  • Coolermaster Hyper 212
  • FSP 500W Hyper X 80+ PSU
  • Zotac GTX1060 6GB
Budget will be around 3k, and hoping to play at 4k resolution. Current monitor is only 1080p and will look to upgrade if the new PC can support and run it smoothly. Based on the above specs would it be more cost effective to replace the entire PC or just upgrade the CPU + GPU?

1) Buy a branded PC like Lenovo Legion.
I don't have links so can check at Challenger etc. stores for specs.
2) Build a brand new DIY, upgrading only components like CPU will need a new motherboard.

Given the specs it should be able to handle the game, have you try do a clean install of WIndows?
(Clean install is not the same with reset.)

I've around the same specs as you, could only get around 30fps on 1080p low. Looked around some videos of Ryzen 1600 + RTX 3060 but still low fps too (<60fps on low), bottleneck. Maybe the new 12700KF + 3070ti for you? https://dynacoretech.com/ready-to-s...supreme-mk4-powered-by-asus-i7-12700kf-3070Ti

But don't expect to play at high fps at 4K.. check out the battlefield2042 subreddit tons of people are complaining even with their 5800Xs and 3080s :/

Yes it's a clean windows with minimal programs installed. I am looking at the one below currently:

Since it's around 3.3k I was also thinking it might be worth topping up to 4k to get the alienware aurora r13 with the latest alder lake CPU

Thanks this looks like a good deal..if 4K is not possible then might have to settle for 1080p or 1440p.

I actually tried running low on 1080p before and it was unplayable. so i had to change back to the default which was set to 1280x 720 or something. But at this resolution everything looks so pixelated and crappy =X

Tested the new invader supreme MK4 rig and quite satisfied with the purchase...able to play ultra settings at 1080p smoothly with no stuttering anymore lol.

Old rig (low settings, 1280x720 res): Avg ~50-60fps, heavy action dips to 30-40fps.
New rig (ultra settings, 1920x1080 res): Avg ~90-100fps, heavy action dips to 70-80fps.

New rig specs:
  • Asus TUF Gaming Z690
  • Deepcool Castle 240EX
  • Intel i9-12900KF
  • Asus TUF Gaming RTX3070Ti 8GB
  • Kingston Fury Beast 16GB
The pc runs surprisingly quiet, and GPU temps were about 70C at full load. Some pics below for anyone who wanna know how it looks like (looks slightly better than advertised imo, as wanted to swap to NZXT H510 elite for better aesthetics but was advised against it by their staff due to airflow issues)

Based on your new system spec upgrading to 1440p would be very nice

2042 is badly unoptimised. Try this

honestly, i think it's okay, it doesn't look bad even at low and medium settings. I feel like the default settings and preset really suck. This kind of game nobody game at 60 FPS, all target 140+ FPS.

Nice! I think it was at a good price too (product was removed from their site liao haha). Curious why Ultra settings though? Around same fps when in med/low?
