Hi Guys,

Finally after tahan for 3 yrs, the time has come to have a complete overhaul of rig.

Been looking around for a while, estimated 2k there abouts. Generally I use rig for movies, youtube, surfing internet, some gaming(E.g. Diablo, and cheapo games), some music for kids etc.

Below is my thoughts about the rig, was also thinking of Asrock 970 Extreme 4 with FX 8350.

One of the things on my mind is also about the secondary HDD, do you guys choose 2.5 Inch HDD instead of 3.5 Inch?

Gigabyte H87M-D3H + 4570 $426
G Skill PC12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 Value Ram 8GB X 2 $188
Plextor M5P 128GB SSD $169
Western Digital 3.5 Inch 1TB Green $85
Gigabyte or Power Color R9 270 $329
Seasonic G Series 650W $145
Cooler Master H100i $185
NZXT Phantom 410 $169
SAMSUNG 24X DVDRW SATA - OEM $21

AOC 23 Inch IPS i2367fh $244
Wireless Keyboard 2000 estimated $39
Mouse Logitech G400 estimated $49
Installation $20

Total cost about 2050...

Any recommendations/ thoughts would be appreciated... :s13:

if you are overclocking then you have to get a K processor
if not just get a H87 or B85 board .

Thanks Bro, think i overspec a lot of stuff... erm what's a PC 270X?

Hmm B85M-D3H + 4570 = 398 hmmm got savings, think i previously keyed wrongly it was a H87M-D3H

Also right, i have been out of tune on PC for a while, how do you setup the SSD? Is it just set boot priority and install like normal. Then when install other applications just point to secondary drive? :s13:

Powercolor = PC

Like normal hdd, u can install OS and ur application , games on it

If u download movies etc can store in ur hdd ~

Thanks man, i'll take a look at that 24 inch also pretty shoik... :s13:

By the way, i was comparing the below 2 boards, erm if i want to have a SSD is it i must use RAID for connection? If not required, likely to go for B85M

GA-B85M-D3H
6Gb/s connectors (SATA3 0/1/2/3) supporting up to 4 SATA 6Gb/s devices
2 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATA2 0/1) supporting up to 2 SATA 3Gb/s devices

GA-H87M-D3H
6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors supporting up to 6 SATA 6Gb/s devices
Support for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10

Dont need raid. Raid is more for connecting multiple HDD or ssd together.

To be frank, your current rig still has plenty power for your usage :D I'd probably up the ram, add an SSD and that's it.

yeah bro,

planning so far to get G Skill PC12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 Value Ram 8GB X 2 $188, SSD i think 128GB enough already. Usually after 3yrs i will change PC... So not a big problem... :s13:

Maybe consider filco keyboard, and AIO cooler for graphics card.

There is no aio cooler for GPU in SLS. It will void the warranty of the card if it has the sticker on the screws.
