New rig to replace my 5 year old pc

Thanks for your patience and enlightenment. I would love the choice of being able to do SLI in the future should the need arises. Always nice to have that option.

What are the chances?

If your day 0 with a rig that has no 2 gpus, and within a few months you do not SLI, then you are most likely not going to SLI.

Its always the case when people always say that they might wanna SLI in future. But in reality as days pass, high likely you wont want to do it.

Cause every year there will be a new card coming out. You will come to the day whereby, adding another card may only reach the highest end card of Nvidia or AMD cards. Whereby it is better for you to buy that 1 card will do.

Some scenario. A 2 gtx980 is the current performance of a single 1080.

So ask yourself, is it worth paying more for something that you think you "might" need in the future? Do you see yourself adding another card probably before the next gen worth of cards are coming out soon. Is it something you may need? And not forgetting you take in more power, and lastly dealing with multi card setup issues when gaming.

If you still think it is fine...

I leave the option open up for you.

ah. den like this u still really need yo get z170 board. even though now not many games support sli and even if have probably not much difference.

well u can try finding some h170 with sli features.

lastly wait for kabylake out den buy.

probably is the layer of pcb or some thing like that and more protection on power throughout the whole board.

Hi all, I'm just about putting the components together and would like your feedbacks if this will turn out right or is there a better alternative. I'm basically building a pc that would last me for the next 5 years as have my previous pc. I'm leaning towards Asus components which has previously served me well.

These are the components:

Intel I7 6700K CPU
Asus Z170 Maximus VIII Hero Alpha motherboard (any better/cheaper/ alternative for this?)
Asus GTX 1080 Strix Gaming 8GB x 2 (would this be too overkill?)
Gskill Ripraw DDR4 3200 16gb (2 x 8gb)
Samsung EVO 850 SSD 500GB
Fractal Design R5 Casing
Coolermaster V850W 80 Gold
Corsair H115i 280mm extreme performance

I have received a quote for about $4600 for the above and $3400 with only 1 graphics card, is this reasonable?

6700K @ stock 4Ghz will last you for very long.
Mobo just stick to your fav Asus Z170.
Graphic card just get a single GTX1080 will do.
Memory just get any DDR4 2400Mhz, 2x8GB will do.
SSD/storage/casing up to you.
PSU can consider corsair rmi series or superflower brand.

Seriously, if you want to buy now, just buy. There is NO point waiting for AMD zen or intel 7000 series. Their performance increase is not going to prolong your so call "last me 5 yrs" to "7 or 8 yrs". 5 yrs later that AMD zen and 7000 series will perform just like a 6000 series.

I've said this many times, and I will say it again.

It's more value to spend $2k on a computer and use for 2 years, and spend another $2k on a brand new rig 2 years later, than to spend $4k on a rig to last you for 4 years.

And yes, there is no point waiting for Intel 7000 series (unless you know stocks and motherboards are coming in in the next 2-3 days lol) . If you really need a new rig, build it now. CPU performance upgrade each generation (for gaming) is very marginal now.

well for 700 is kinda in a middle between a 24" and a 27" 144hz monitor. else u can just grab a normal 60hz 1440p 27".

but base on the gpu u getting, i preferred u just goes with a 24" 144hz monitor like benq (there are quite a few models, u can google for it.) all cost around $500.

On the 4th and 5th year, I'm pretty sure a $2k(ish) rig should have similar performance already. Not forgetting SLI scales and not all games have SLI profiles built in.

So in conclusion it's more worth it to build a $2k rig once every year (i.e. every generation build a new rig) for 5 years, than spend $10k and expect the rig to last for 5 years. Troublesome but still you get better value.

actually if use the pc everyday for 10hrs a day. if spoil on the 3rd year,considered okay already? Most of the ppl land in this year(three years) right? with some small exceptions to people having their pc spoiled after 1 year or 5 years
