new role: not as heavy workload, gradually will increase, risk of becoming redundant, lots of sai kung if job responsibility is not clear or vague
replacement role: depending on the person who left, risk of kio sai Kung from the person, heavier workload, safer in terms of obsolescence.

New role if you want to experience new job responsibilities. Replacement role if you like to help people.

New role - unknown territories, grey KPI. Easy to wayang act like work very hard but actually do nothing. Cons is newly created position is usually highest risk. Business bad time you will be first to say bye bye.

Replacement role - everyone know what you supposed to do, cannot run away. Best hope your predecessor is a buay-gan low performer so easy to show you are better.
