Newbie need help on upgrading!

Hi community,

It's not the first time I am posting here to get advice but this is the only place I know to get some IT and hardware help from so please bear with me!

Below are my specs and I am looking to upgrade because I can't play games anymore due to the fact that whenever I run a game it just auto restarts itself or it will shutdown by itself usually the former. I googled about the problems and narrowed it down to PSU or Graphics card problem.

kingston 4gb ddr3 x 2 pcs
powercolor 7950 3gb v2 edition with 2 fans
crucial m4 128gb ssd
seagate 1tb sata 3 64mb cache hdd
asus 24x dvdrw
fsp aurum gold 550w modular psu
sharkoon t28 case

Above are the specs I currently have and need advice on

1) Which parts to upgrade or are my parts still relevant to keep all and just upgrade the graphics card?

2) After browsing here got the urge to buy a graphics card because of the Qoo10 $100 coupon but not sure which one to get, it would be nice to get some help here to narrow down to the trusted model, brand and which distro to get it from? Like palit has dual fan, and superstream version? and palit vs zotac, and qoo10 has various distro offering the same card so not sure which is has the best rep in this forum.

3) Is it possible to shift all my components from my old sharkoon case to a new one? I'm not sure if the parts will still work after moving it around. Since i'm getting a new card, might as well go for a brand new look because my old case is like 4 years old and it looks dingy.

4) Can I engage gs (Nigel) for the above service? and asking him to install the new 1070 card once I get it? Of course I will pay him kopi money... just asking here to find out whats the market rate for such service. Don't want to look bad pay lesser than expected.

TL;DR: Can't play games due to auto shutdown issue, tempted to get a new graphics card because of qoo10 $100 voucher but unsure which brand, model and distro to get from. Also curious about GS's service at SLS.

anyway i still think that might be possible your MB and ram as well, unless u did run any test on your onboard gpu or not. but i still think that u should try to message nigel and look for him by today to see if really your gpu and psu.

but is there any bluescreen? if nope will be either your psu or mb.

1) cant give the ans unless the issues is solved. (concluded its gpu issues)

2) well its hard to give u reco as i dunno these following:
a) budget
b) games u playing (current and upcoming)
c) resolutions of your monitor (any upgrade of monitor in the future like 1 or 2 years later)

3)yes you can. its still work, the computer doesnt know about the casing u change into only those main component like ram, gpu, storage, cpu and power.

4) yes u can, but can check with him if u want him to install the gpu for u. as for market rates im not even sure of it since most shop do full assemble at around 10~20?

1) but oh no the $100 coupon is gonna be expired in like 3 days and I can't make it down to nigel's shop! should I just buy the card first as an upgrade even though the problem might not lie with the card (since its such a sweet price for a 1070)

2)Oh sorry about that I'll try and provide some info
a) Budget is probably like within 500+? since i see all the 1070 on qoo10 are going at around 600+ and with the discount code it will be 500+ I just don't know which brand is more reliable like zotac vs palit. I noticed brands like MSI and other demands a higher price... is it because they use better parts?

b) Been out of the game scene for a while now because of my auto restart issue but prior to that I enjoy new titles like witcher 3, GTA V, etc. I generally like to play new and upcoming games

c) I am on a 1080p gaming right now because of my screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 so yeah. I read up a bit on whether I should upgrade to 1440p but research shows that it's gonna be taxing on the graphics card (i.e. expediting the need to upgrade the graphics card) I'm not too sure if I'll upgrade in the future but if a 1070 is able to handle 1440p gaming, i'll probably look into it!

3) Thanks! I always thought if i removed the parts it'll have a nice that it might not work in another case due to the moving about and note that the parts are like 4 years old

The 1070 is made for 1440p gaming. And regarding MSI using better parts hence more expensive, it kinda ambiguous. Not saying that zotac and palit materials ain't good.

A number of peeps here still have their palit and zotac card running after years. It all boils down to brand and design preferences.

I see, since u can't make it down to his shop den hoot 1st. And as he say 1070 is meant for 1440p.

As the parts some time its a bit heng and suay and some components just burn out their life cycle.

Anyway if u want long warranty can get zotac amp edition. Should be cheap with the coupons as well. Palit dual is also current cheap right now.

Hmm still thinking a lot to make the jump because on one hand really enticed by the 100 dollars discount which makes the card so much more worth it then on the other not sure if i'm ready to drop so much money on it or not. Because I was thinking along the line of getting 1070 might be able to future proof me for a longer time because my previous card lasted me 4 years... so if get 1060 a bit not worth? Might as well top up a bit more for 1070. What do you guys reckon? I might be getting a monitor soon when I have more spending power so i can upgrade to 1440p gaming too but then again, might just stay with 1080p.

distro wise i can't advice for that. so i'll bump this up for others to have a say.

The difference between superjet stream (SJS) and dual
is that the SJS has:

bigger card(in size), consumes a tad bit more wattage, has dual bios, RGB lighting and runs at higher out of factory clock than the Dual.

its fine if you're gaming at 1080p with high refresh rate monitor (144hz). if its 1080p @ 60hz then its kinda overkill, 1060 would fit better. but since you've mention about getting another monitor in future, you'll have to decide for yourself.
