Newbie that requires advice. Please Help

Hi there people. I recently decided to forge myself with a gaming pc of a budget of 1k. (I do audio editing too, but priority goes to gaming.) Got my knowledge solely from the internet, hence would like to get advice from you guys. Got a couple of questions:

1. Where to get the components from for the best price? (If possible through online). I heard about googoo.com.sg and mynextcomonline.com.

2. Regarding the brands of motherboard and graphics card. Which brand do i go for? Asus,MSI or Gigabyte etc.

Current plans for the parts.
ICore i5 (Please advice on the model, cuz i'm not sure what the difference in frequency does. Heard something about overclocking.)

CPU cooler (Do i really need one? I heard the stock CPU cooler isn't good.)

Motherboard (Not sure which brand and model to go for. Heard it's important for a good overclocking motherboard.)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 8GB(2x4GB) Low Profile

Graphics card: MSI N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 750Ti GAMING (Heard that nvidia is a better choice over amd in this current time, not trying to start a war here. The MSI brand has a longer PCB, which aids in cooling? And it has a software that allows overclocking.

Casing: I got no idea which brand and model to go for, please advice. (Not looking for anything fancy, one that could serve me well, like good airflow and stuff.)

Power Supply: Got no idea for how much watts needed and the model.

Operating system: Windows 8.1(Need recommendation on which version. Not sure on the differences.)

Sound card: I think i'll skip that for now.

Pretty much got the other stuff like hard drive,monitor covered.
Would really appreciate on the feedback and advice. Thanks in advance.

1. TradePAC
2. I like ASUS, ASRock and MSI.
3. Only if you plan to overclock or go for s silent, else the stock cooler is fine. Use the budget for other components.
4. Corsair is usually not a good choice because they're more expensive than similar offerings, get G.skill.
5. It depends on how much you're willing to spend. 750Ti is unmatched at its segment, but going towards the high end, AMD has higher performance per dollar.
6. Get something you like, which fits your hardware. Corsair, CoolerMaster and Silverstone are what I usually look at.
7. Depends on what GPU you end up getting.
8. 8.1 is fine.

Would help you do a build list, but I'm not at home.

lol i just looked at googoo website. They dont sell cheaper mobos like the msi b85m g43, cheaper graphics card like the zoctac gtx 750ti which can be overclocked to be the same performance as the msi for $70 lesser.
I rather u use mynextcomonline.com and let them build + ship to you.

windows 8 is also abit more expensive than windows 7. u sure u want it?

1k a bit tight. The way you mentioned most of the things. It wont fit your 1k budget.

For 1k you should be looking at something

Kingston v300 120gb ~ $115
Powercolor r9 270 2gb ~ $245 (extremely easy to oc and surpasses the gtx750ti in performance)
Cm311 + fsp hexa 500w 80+ ~ $105
Samsung ODD ~ $21
Windows 7 home premium 64bit oem ~ $115

Total ~ $1036 buy at tradepac. Diy

i think if you want windows 8 you should go challenger or other electronic store to try out first cause the interface is quite different from window 7 other than boot time is faster. The most irritating part is the shutting down option in my opinion...

@royfrosty Firstly, thank you for you advice. Secondly, i could increase my budget to bout 1.3k if that helps? I'm aiming for a pc that could hit medium to high settings on a game without much frame problems.

I second this for new comers to windows 8

For me, after being on windows 8 for more then 1 year without the start button i find myself not using it much at all hahaha.
Just got used to using the popup option bar on the right so i always goes to control panel and shut down/restart via there.

One of the best Feature of classic start is the boot to desktop.

Still not upgrading to 8.1 for now.

Razer should be the absolutely LAST brand you can choose for a mech kb, seeing that their QC is terribly bad (rubber wear off fast, LED dying fast)

Get corsair k70/95 if u have budget of almost 200. Or filco majestic touch seems good to me also

If budget of $200, can get a lot of variety le... ducky shine 3, filco, etc... But if $100, den rosewill, durandal (not sure of its spelling)

basically all based around the cherry MX switches..
check out CMStorm Quickfire Ultimate.. Cherry MX Blue/Brown $158 Red $168 i think.. Waiting to hoot a blue or red switch one. can't decide
