[NFC]Unable to read cards. Why?

Hi,

I try using samsung mega 6.3 's nfc to does not seem to be able to read my ezlink and kopithiam card. It keep saying "tag not supported" Any reason why?
But yet my POSB ATM card, it can read.

Do note that I does not have nfc-enabled sim card ? But if just purely for reading the transactions in the card, should not require nfc-enabled sim card lei.

na its the card itself and the encryption the card is using is different from the rest of the world so the phone needs a higher power nfc chip.

Could be firmware also or even the app itself

For my sony xperia z it could't read on 4.1.2 but when 4.2.2 can read. Same with my dad's samsung s3 certain firmware and certain app version can read certain ones cannot.

EZlink card is sometimes hard to read or certain batches unable to read with our NFC phones. Sometimes Nets Flashpay cards are easier to read.

I use the flashpay already. Then uses the farebot , but fail to read it.

Misinformation.

Kopitiam card is a mifare classic 1k card, which is a proprietary NXP standard. The s4 uses a Broadcom NFC controller, that is why the s4 cannot read kopitiam cards.

Older phones mostly use the NXP PN544 controller, which is why the s3 is able to read the kopitiam card.

Just so you know, my galaxy nexus running android 4.3 is able to read kopitiam cards with no problems as the NFC controller used is the PN544.

Thanks. It's sad to hear that the hardware matters. If it is just the app issue, we can just sit and wait for the developer to update the app. If it is just the os, we can wait for os to be fixed. If it is hardware issue, then no choice has to buy new phone liao.

Most current devices uses the Broadcom controller. One exception is the HTC One which is using a NXP controller.
