free bus and mrt rides are different from things like free healthcare for instance.

if you have 1 person taking the bus or 50 person taking the bus. the operational cost of the bus is still the same. 40 person or 50 person taking the bus, operational costs still remain the same. Unless you have 100 person taking the bus but the bus capacity only is 50, then you have to cater for 2 buses in the same period, then that would increase.

So, free bus and mrt rides do not necessarily need to be funded by more taxes. as the operational costs would likely still remain the same. The profits are the one that would be eroded, and hence that is the job of them to try and find the right balance. For instance, one could allow free MRT rides and bus rides for the elderly during non peak hours first. there are already many empty seats during those periods anyway, so that would not eat into the profits, while the operational costs are still the same. No need to have to touch on extra tax to pay for these.

That is why in the past PAPpies have tried to fill up the MRTs and buses to the brim in the past by making intervals between trains and buses longer etc in order to maximize profits... until it exploded and boom.

Not true, bro.

Whether the bus is half full or a quarter full is not relevant in this case. I do know where you are coming from. In cost accounting, they call it a "sunk cost", and there is no incremental cost arising from having an old man sitting in an empty seat in a bus which is only half full.

I may not work for SBS, or any of the bus companies but it's Accounting 101 to know that the fares are derived by working out the total revenue from all passengers including students using a monthly bus pass, army personnel for same, adults on normal fares and senior citizens using the Senior's Card with discounted fares..and then determining if these cover costs. If not, the fares would be adjusted upwards...and a decision would be made on which group of commuters have to pay how much more per trip.

Any alteration to the equation such as by removing the fares collected from Seniors would have to be re-balanced by other commuters paying more.

Young people should be running the show instead of a majority of old men and women. PAP need to inject more than 60% young people to run the country.

This is what you get in pretty much every "democracy", a bunch of old people desperately trying to hang onto power.

Smrt and sbs are listed companies .u cant forced companies to give out free rides.
It will still be funded out of govt budget.no?

When want more money then is public transport.

When ask for fare reduction then is public company.

雷声大雨点小. Always has been, always will be. Talk so much, but on early Saturday morning, it’ll be the pap that crosses the 50% mark for east coast.

Aiya, no matter what rhetoric, we know that it is not going to be so easy for PAP to lose East Coast GRC.

Cost is cost?
No matter what accounting methods you use, which I assume is activity based costing, the cost will still be the same?

But of course, accounting for revenue will be different

I know cost is cost. But you need revenue to cover cost. If you take away revenue earned from Seniors, how do you cover the costs? Somebody must pay. Do you follow?

despite being an opposition supporter , I am not optimistic that they will win big this election.

Singaporeans will say how unsatisfied they are, but the older generations still feel differently, in the end the incumbent wills till take everything

I see WP's Nicole Seah as the androgynous Goddess of Mercy of the sea, sent to the East Coast by Heaven to help poor Mr Heng Sweet Kiat out of a bad situation... :)

Mr Heng had only recently gone through a brain surgery after a serious stroke, and yet he is under tremendous stress to do a good job to show his boss...

.. this is extremely detrimental to Mr Heng's health!... as it will result in disastrous consequencee to his future well-being...
.. it will be sad for those who love him to see a nice person like him suffer in future, especially his family... :(

.. since voting the WP team will save Mr Heng and his loved ones from future grief, it is up to voters to save the situation...

.. furthermore, with WP voted in, everyone in Singapore will benefit much, and will be able create and enjoy a more compassionate and gracious society......:angel::angel:
