Depends on when you're visiting Nikko. If it's the peak season during autumn, then you might not be able to book your accommodation in Nikko.

There's nothing much activities at night unless you're staying in a hostel or ryokan with onsen. Many of the places require a bit of walking and traveling on bus. It would be good if you could stay at least 1 night.

Could take Enoden to visit Enoshima from Kamakura. If you've seen Slam Dunk and GTO, it's an experience to take Enoden 江ノ電 - you get to enjoy the sea view. I'm a sucker for special train journeys - more so if they were sightseeing trains. There are many cafes in the area facing the sea. Or even see Mt. Fuji on a clear day or evening. Kamakura has its local souvenirs such as Hato Sable and Kamakura Hangetsu. You can take a look at the pictures in the links below.

I've not been to both places though. Have fun planning!

Nikko is a seasonal place.... So if go in autumn season u wil find it beautiful....

Try to reach nikko in the morning so u can cover quite a bit of nikko....

It all depends on what attracts u...... culture, sightseeing etc...

Den evening make your way to kinugawa onsen for a night stay in ryokan....

Next morning after breakfast walk around kinugawa area before u head back to tokyo....

I visited Nikko during my Jan 2015 japan trip.

Reached at about 11am but find it hard to navigate the area (waterfall area etc). Is there bike rentals in that area? i think will be much enjoyable with some form of personal transport.

U can read up on the two day nikko pass by Tobu railway leave from asakusa....

As for ryokan... Kinugawa had more choice as along both side of the river, there r many nice famous ryokan.....

So it up to your personal preference..... Eg the outdoor view of the hot spring... The food....

Choose a Japanese room.... Then it wun be too costly......

Website like Japanican ryokan..... Sometimes got flash sale.....

Any recommended ryokan in kinugawa?

U should read up on some of the Japanese ryokan website....

In kinugawa got a variety of ryokan to suit everyone with different budget....

Thus u should able to find one that's suit u.....

Website like Japanican, ryokan association etc....

If lifestyle is what u after......

Afew top end ryokan is around usd 800 per pax....

For me I prefer to go those 20 rooms ryokan run by Japanese family....

Compare to those hotel style run kind of ryokan.......
