I just bought a Switch from challenger today..mario odyssey bundle...bought a few games as well...

Set up everything ok...was using it on portable mode...i tried going into the E-shop and the whole thing hanged...had to hard reset (hold down power button)

Then tried updating firmware to 4.01..it worked but e-shop still hanged.

Tried playing my games...downloaded game data and could load but the following happened...

1) Loaded Mario Odyssey, hanged on the cg scene at the start with bowser.
2) Loaded Mario kart 8, hanged at the start screen
3) Street fighter, showed error message.
4) Training instruction video at settings hanged too.

Tried factory reset and loading but the same errors occur.

Is my unit screwed? Any advice on what to do? Does maxsoft do the exchange or Challenger if its a unit defect?

definitely defective
don't bother to troubleshoot just go back and get it exchange asap

Your one might be a lemon set don't bother go to maxsoft seen is under 7 days one to one exchange policy in singapore,just go back to challenger tell them the problem show them, and go for one to one exchange if cannot exchange ask for full refund if both cannot ask to talk higher ranking staff shop manager or operation manager.

No matter what they should either exchange you a new set or full refund

Hmmm not sure if they do one to one exchange of gaming consoles though...Will still give it a try later...problem is if they don't then will have to head down to maxsoft to get it changed and they only open at office hours .... :(

As a cosumer you must know your right don't be a sotong blur blur leh if your set is above 1 month got problem reasonable u go back to the respective agents for warranty, but come on yours is ONLY ONE DAY that no freaking reason or excuse for challenger not to do exchange or full refund don't let's retailer eat us up must know your right, if they refuse to exchange or refund or ask u go service centre please kindly tell them you will go to case trust and report them.

Sorry it I am harsh with my words but you must know your own right

challenger shud ok one, did refund long time ago
ang moh shop very good to customer
apple also can arrange courier cum ur house collect stuff u opt for return, can arrange timing some more

That one was a ps4 but quite similar situation - challenger asked him to send to repair center, he reported in the forum, others advised him to exercise his lemon law rights. Eventually he got his 1-to-1 exchange after involving CASE. Another bro did mention he had success going back to challenger directly, quoting lemon law.

Since on topic of warrenty, my set was bought in hokaido Japan BIC. so warrenty i would have to bring it back to Japan right?

yes, i bought mine at HK, hence warranty need to go back to distro at HK.
unless maxsoft in SG kind-heart to accept our unit :D

anyway, Ravpower 26.8k powerbank is having promo now. gotten mine this afternoon at CEF'2017. they even put a information note - PB for Nintendo Switch :s13:

Their USB-A to USB-C cable is good quality as well. just cost $11.

From what I understand, MaxSoft will repair your unit when you pay a local warranty conversion which effectively makes the cost of your unit (at RRP) become similar to that of the local units.
