I think I can get by without the online services. Zelda is never going to be multiplayer anyways. So is Mario.

as long as system and game gets patches. all is fine by me.

Mario is not. Mario kart, arms, bomberman r, pokemon all got multiplayer

i am interested in this (for the first time ever for a nintendo system since the DS) only because i am a frequent traveller and having a 'semi-portable' system to play on the plane and playing real games seems fine to me....price is never a concern to me though the accessories are indeed super expensive..

also, the nintendo online service....LOL...no....never gonna sign up for that. I will be glad buying a nintendo system with just Zelda, Mario and just single player games....and treat the Switch as a mini-sub system to compliment my main system PS4...

I'll be honest, I really like the concept of the Switch. It's unique, different from the norm (Sony and MS are gearing towards 4K, VR etc) yet retaining familiar elements (the joy con grip is pretty much like a normal controller). Not a massive fan of the portability aspect, but it's nice to have.

But I have no faith in owning a Nintendo home console. The Wii is mostly party games and the Wii U was even worse. I do not mind the Switch missing out on core games that PS4/XB1 gets, but please... no more ports of old games. First party games are good and all but it isn't enough.

What's more, Nintendo's subpar online experience meant online gaming at home was pretty sh!t. On a portable (3DS), it's a compromise I'm willing to accept, but for a home console it's an absolute no-no.

I am, however, glad to see that Nintendo is finally realising their mistakes and trying to improve the online system. I don not mind them charging for Switch online if it proves to be decent. However, I fear that they might be a little too late.

Nope they didn't mention . Don't think they will until they see how well switch does first .

But for me there's no point maintaining another hand held if switch is doing well , they can use all their resources on switch .

a lot of nintendo audience has already adapt to gaming on dual screens. that is why they went from DS -> 3DS. still maintaining the dual screen format.

and they have quite a bit of library over there that cannot be emulated on switch. dual screen + stylus.

personal opinion lar. the same thing why the joy-cons have built in motion sensors. they want the Wii audience or soccer mums back.

Technically I think they can emulate the dual screen. The only thing missing is just having 2 screens. But they can basically split the Switch's 6.2" screen and place the NDS/3DS dual screens on the left and right. Since the Switch has a touch screen anyway, the 'lower' screen can still work with stylus.

I did some calculations, the 3DS has a 3.53" 15:9 upper screen, 3.02" 4:3 lower screen, this makes them 3.02"x1.82" and 2.42"x1.8". The Switch has 6.2" 16:9, this makes it 5.4"x3". So the Switch's screen has enough width (only 0.02" short) to show the same size dual screens of the 3DS.

The question is whether Nintendo wants to make an emulator and start selling (or re-selling) NDS/3DS titles on VC. Probably sometime down the road they will (obviously focus is on getting native Switch games out first), especially when they want to boost sales of the Switch (or give it a second wind when necessary).

BTW, someone pointed out that the Neon version of the Switch console has opposite Red/Blue Joy-Con from the Joy-Con Neon Red/Blue controllers sold separately.

So if you want to get a set of Red and Blue Joy-Con, get the Neon version of the console and buy a set of Joy-Con in Neon Red/Blue.
