I'll be honest, I really like the concept of the Switch. It's unique, different from the norm (Sony and MS are gearing towards 4K, VR etc) yet retaining familiar elements (the joy con grip is pretty much like a normal controller). Not a massive fan of the portability aspect, but it's nice to have.
But I have no faith in owning a Nintendo home console. The Wii is mostly party games and the Wii U was even worse. I do not mind the Switch missing out on core games that PS4/XB1 gets, but please... no more ports of old games. First party games are good and all but it isn't enough.
What's more, Nintendo's subpar online experience meant online gaming at home was pretty sh!t. On a portable (3DS), it's a compromise I'm willing to accept, but for a home console it's an absolute no-no.
I am, however, glad to see that Nintendo is finally realising their mistakes and trying to improve the online system. I don not mind them charging for Switch online if it proves to be decent. However, I fear that they might be a little too late.
