Do you think its a good idea to get additional joy-cons together with Mario Kart 8 (assuming I'm able to reserve one on launch)?

This is in anticipation for a kid's birthday party and thinking of having them play on the screen with split-screen.

Will you be using additional joy-cons after party? Because I feel if you bought that just for 1 party is waste.
