Hi folks,

Previously, I am using the mentioned WD external HD on my Win XP desktop before it "up the lorry" without any problem.

After that, I use the said ext HD on my Macbook, it is able to read BUT it can't delete/transfer/copy the data to/fro the Macbook and the ext HD.

Later, I reformat and installed the necessary Mac driver, everything is ok with my Macbook.

Now, I would like to know after the mentioned process, can I "plug-and-play" this WD Passport to any Window-powered O/S devices (desktop or laptop) since it's already loaded with the Mac drivers.

Thanks for any help.

Go and get the paragon NTFS driver for the Mac OS X to write to NTFS

It depends on what file system have you reformatted your ext hdd. If it is under NTFS, then windows should recognize.

If you had used Mac to reformat, it may be in a system that windows might not recognize. In this case you may have to reformat to disk to NTFS or ExFat. Under NTFS, you'll need to install the drives in Mac. ExFat is recognized for both Mac & PCs.

Thanks for replies, would it mean next time if I need to get an ext HD, I must ensure the default fiLe system as "ExFat" if to use on both Mac and Window? If so, would the sales staff able to advise me?

Not necessarily.

just get an external drive. that works with windows.

bring back home and reformat it to exfat.

don't bother paying manufacturers extra money just for the "for mac" printing.

Yes, that's correct.

Or you can use the normal ntfs format and install the ntfs drivers for mac and you can use for both machines.

Or you can just simply format it to Ex-fat by yourself.
